I was on the train coming into work today and I looked around at all of the beautiful buildings and other man made wonders and it got me to thinking. What is the point of all this? Every time I get psyched up about buying houses or cars or clothes my mind is kinda like, what difference does it make, you are going to die anyway. Why build a house, why do anything more than the minimum? Why go above and beyond, for what?

Well, enjoy life while you have it. You don't want to die regretting something you didn't do.

As an atheist (honestly I'm not here to start a fight) I wonder that because according to my belief there is nothing after death and nothing I do in my life ultimately means anything. All I can do is live a good life while I'm here and make the world a better place. I can find something worth fighting for and try to help future generations even if I never know of the future after death. Being motivated is easy when you believe any second your very being could be erased from existence and you would never even notice.

Well, live your life to the fullest. Enjoy it more than anything. Life is a beautiful gift and DON'T let it go to waste. Think about the present, and not the future and don't wast a minute of your life. Be happy because once you lose a minute of your life you will never be able to get it back. Thank God everyday you wake up and say "Thanks for giving me another day of living" Enjoy life 'till you have it because you never know about tomorrow. the atmosphere around you today, may not be the same tomorrow...

I stay motivated by knowing that I was placed in this world for a reason, and that it is up to me to find and fulfill my purpose, whatever that may be. If we all got caught up in the fact that we could "die any day," well, nothing would get done and the world would basically shut down because no one would give a damn.

I am pleased to share my philosophy on this:

What motivates me is the fact that each breath is not guaranteed, that is why our spirits must exercise enjoyment, seeking and exploring first--- on this earth. In the next life we shall be able to choose where we want to go based on our experiences and lessons.

I believe life here on earth is only an introduction, and an opportunity to finding ourselves; while facing every day challenges in the flesh. I'll leave it at that for now.

I understand what you are saying, because it is true, we live,we die. I don't know if you are a bible reader or not. It's ok if your not. But i have the hope of everlasting life.
Here is one scriptrue in particular i like. Revelation 21:3,4; with that i heard a loud voice from the throne say : Look! the tent of god is with mankind, and he will reside with them, and they will be his peoples. And god himself will be with them. And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will morning nor outcry nor pain be any more, the former things have passed away."
You know the whole bible has one theme... do you know what it is? It is God's kingdom, that is the whole theme of the bible. And that is actually one good reason to believe that it is the ture word of god. The bible was written over thousands of years, what is talked about in the old testament, is talked about in the new. I hope i have been of assistance to you! e-mail me if you have any questions!

..."he not busy being born is busy dieing.." sings Bob Dylan.
But even the Bobster goes on living, singing, writing songs.
Nihilism is so old school. I really do not even want to explain it.
Read a bit of Jean Paul Sartre and wallow in it. Then take a deep breath and open your mind. It's not all about you all the time.
Have a good trip!

Because it is better to think of today and tomorow, rather then the day after tomorow.
Think about it, what if you expect death to come and it doesn't? Will you have enough resources to be prepared for the days UNTIL death comes for you? It's rather a question of how to live your life?
Personaly I would much more like to meet Death in an, at least, deacent house with my belongins and tell Him that this is how I lived my life, then to be a homeless man dressed in rags and telling him that I waited for a long time for IT to come for me.
If I think about the day after tomorow, I forget about today and tomorow.

You sound like you need to care about someone or something in a hurry. If that happens, and you have love in your life, then everything suddenly matters.

Every day to wake up and breath is a good day, life is just lots of good days.
