nothing about cops and robbers, car chases or drug gangs. They must have some decent films about other themes?

Try
Little Miss Sunshine, its a funny, charming story of a little girl, who incidentally is not one of those Hollywood brats, who enters a beauty pageant. Its a kinda road movie, with her oddball family driving across America, though has a lot more going for it, not least the little girl herself.

Cyrano De Bergerac with Gerard Depardieu, story of a man who has a rather large nose but doesn't let that stand in his way, if you see what i mean. He is a poet, swordsman, and general bon viveur, its a bit sad because he loves Roxanne but she loves another. I would rate this as one of the best films of all time and Depardieu is just superb.

Seabiscuit - the true story of a racehorse called Seabiscuit who against all the odds becomes a champion, but that's only a little part of it, The people who buy, train and look after him and the jockey that triumphs. Even if you don't like horses you will love this. Makes me cry every time i watch that horse come home.

Well, that leaves out one of my favorites, Jackie Chan movies, but lots of the old stuff is really entertaining - "It's Always Fair Weather" with Gene Kelly and Cyd Charisse, "It Happened One Night" with Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert, etc... "300" doesn't have any car chases or cops/robbers - plenty bloody but a neat movie.

If you're a fan of Kevin Spacey ( I am, I think he's an incredible actor), try The Life of David Gale. It's awesome. There's not much action / violence in it that I remember and it's a movie you have to stay with to know what's going on, but if that sounds like something you're up for, check it out!

Call me an old romantic, but it's got to be Brief Encounter, with Trevor Howard and Celia Johnson.
