I can't stand the guy but the backlash is retarded and over-the-top. When was the last time these people took in or fed a stray animal, yet they act like they are spokespeople for PETA. And half of them eat meat provided by inhumane means.
This is the epitome of hypocrisy. Yes, it's bad he's behind a dogfighting ring, but when's the last time you ate a juicy hamburger or wore a leather belt? Get over yourself because it looks really dumb.

I only respect actual PETA members or people with backgrounds in helping animals. Everybody else is just running with the mob, yelling at nothing cuz they're going to dig into a juicy steak for dinner.

Sorry Joe, but maybe you should ask PETA people how animals are killed to make clothing and to feed us. I don't think it's all that painless and humane...

Disregard the dopes who are throwing so much negativity your way. I think I understand where you're coming from. Correct me if I'm wrong-- What you are asking for is that people examine their personal beliefs and that, if those beliefs don't include addressing animal cruelty as a whole, they shouldn't be in the line waiting to crucify Vick. I agree.
Firstly, let me say that no one actively fights for each and every issue that concerns him/her. After all, we only have but so much time and energy on our hands. But I'm sure you know that and are simply saying that many of the people who are angry with Vick are some of the very same people who support various other animal cruelties. This is so true. (And, by the way, those who believe that animal slaughter is humane in the United States should do their homework. It ISN'T. To believe otherwise is to buy into consumerism and big business.)
I, too, think it's quite ridiculous and hypocritical that so many are foaming at the mouth over Vick while they eat cow, chicken, pig, etc..., wear rabbit, mink, fox, etc..., enjoy entertainment which includes dolphins, tigers, elephants, etc..., and so on.... We all support animal cruelty in one way or another, as it is completely unavoidable. But what you say is so true, as there are so many who don't even try to avoid supporting cruelty but who are waiting in the Vick-crucifixion-line.
So many are content to accept societal norms- that it's fine and dandy to gnaw on their hamburgers regardless of how those juicy tid bits found their way to people's plates. They think it doesn't matter simply because culture and/or tradition tells us that hamburgers are yummy, wonderful, and a-ok for us to eat. Meanwhile, they want Vick to suffer (the reason being because culture/tradition says that cruelty to dogs is off-limits). Such hypocrisy! I totally agree with you on this.
I appreciate your honesty- saying that you don't like Vick while admitting that you're not vegan (but showing respect for those who are concerned for animals) and asking that people trash their hypocrisy. I thank you so much for addressing this matter.
As for me- Nope, I don't approve of cruelty to dogs. But I don't approve of cruelty to any other animals either. I am an animal rightist, and I try my best to avoid supporting animal cruelty as much as possible.
Someone mentioned legalities. Legalities are irrelevant. If we were to get all hung up over legalities then we would have to say that slavery in this country (just an example) was acceptable since it was legal at the time. (And don't tell me that I'm "comparing apples to oranges" either, because I'm not. To say that I'm "comparing apples to oranges" would be the same as saying that everything that's legal anywhere is acceptable simply because it's legal.) And as far as a power/money-hungry leader is concerned- Do you have any information from an unbiased source that can tell us what Ingrid Newkirk's income is? And please, pray tell, how can one obtain power from fighting for the rights of animals? Oh, and animal caretakers are definintely NOT hunters and sportsmen. I think someone needs to do a bit of research on gender-ratio distortion.
I like much of what Pledge_or_Die said. But I'll refrain from commenting on his post for the sake of remaining on topic with the question. Actually, I'll go ahead and conclude by expressing (yet again) my thanks to you (the asker) for bringer this matter to everyone's attention. ☺

I think you're comparing apples to oranges here.
Eating a hamburger is not illegal, running a dog fighting ring is.
PETA is a different story altogether. They do absolutely nothing for the betterment of animals. They are nothing but a cult with a leader that is power and money hungry. Other than that they are just criminals that will stop short of nothing to make their point.
Believe it or not the real animal caretakers are hunters and sportsmen. They actually manage wildlife populations and work to help animals and their enviornment.

Michael Vick is the psycho here. When we eat a hamburger (or any other meat product for that matter) in the U.S. at least, we know that the food animals were humanely killed, NOT tortured to death the way Vick did it.
IMO, Vick should receive the same treatment that those dogs got.

animal abuse, they have feelings too.
the killings of animals are often not discussed in public so people don't know how the animals are slaughtered, they are often led to believe that the animals are simply killed, processed, & packaged for food. simple & clean supposedly
their backlashes are overly harsh, but to say that he only harmed a few dogs, which is nothing is wrong. they are living creatures.

why should we get over ourselves. everybody has opinions, otherwise you wouldn't be sharing your point of view of how we're going overboard with our views. maybe we don't support sadistic treatments toward other living creatures while you do. i hope you're a vegetarian because it would be rather hypocritical of you.
