My title basically says my question - I'm from TN, and I'm wondering if my boss can demand overtime without some sort of notice at the exense of my job. References please.

Not contracted and I'm hourly.

if you want to keep the job do the overtime.
Remember you can be terminated at any time for any reason or no reason at all. As an employer I can tell you we do not want to pay overtime wages if we do not have to do so.

If your employee handbook doesn't say anything about mandatory overtime, or any other documentation that is available to you through HR, then he cannot force you to work overtime.

Employment laws are very flexible when it comes to overtime, but they typically require that the employer abide by schedule agreements made at the time of hire, which would include OT compensation, if any, and whether you are required to work OT.

If there was none of that, then I would contact an attorney.

Read your employee handbook - There should be a clause about overtime in it somewhere.

this is especially important for single parents and parents of very small children who need to make arrangements for childcare.

If there isn't a specific "overtime" clause or it reads very vague, contact your union or at least the TN Labor Relations board for a ruling.

Be careful however - as things like this can backfire on you and make it hard to keep your present job - or get another one later on.

So if you must raise a red flag - do so carefully so as to not jeopardize your position.

You need to provide more details to get an informed answer. Are you an hourly or exempt (salaried) employee? Do you have any sort of employment contract?

yes you have to up to but not exceeding 2 hrs
per 8 hr shift under federal law you can be terminated
without recoures for refusing
notice or amount of time requiewd to notify you im
not sure but i think its as little as 15 minutes

I do not know about the USA but if in the UK we have the citizens advice bureau who can advise you
