If both teams were at their athletic peak and had the same clothing, racquet's and apparel I would have to say Martina and Chris would win in three tight sets. They have the experience and know how to play doubles. It's not just about power but also touch and angles.

Might not be the most popular of answers but that's just what I think.

P.S.---- By the way Gannoway, Chris Evert DID win a couple of top doubles titles.

1974 French Open with Olga Morozova
1975 French Open with Martina Navratilova
1976 Wimbledon with Martina Navratilova

I'll put my money on the Williams'.

First of all, they seem to play really good together - they can "sense" each other on court and move together, in sync, like a doubles pair is supposed to. Knowing each other's tendencies like the back of their own hand is already an advantage to the Williams'.

Second, I think the sisters would target Evert and try to overwhelm her - slamming groundstrokes and volleys at will in her direction.

Third, the William sisters have an advantage on serve. Both can serve their opponents off the court.

Martina, in her prime, may be able to hang tough with the Williams', but I don't think Evert would be able to maintain her composure throughout the match.

I'm with elgato67 on this one. The cat knows what he's talking about. In their day Martina & Chrissy were the two top women in the world. Chrissy had the purest strokes of anybody. She beat the world #1 Margaret Court at age 15 and ended her singles career with a 90% win percentage. She was ranked number #1 8 times - the longest was for 18 months and accoring to experts is ranked 3rd as the best female player ever after Steffi Graff and Martina Navratilova. Her doubles record is also impressive with a 75% win percentage. She won 8 Doubles titles including 2 grand slams with Martina - the '75 French Open & '76 Wimbledon. She played alot with weaker lower ranked partners after that & most of the loses came at the hands of Martina and Pam Shriver. Chrissy was quick on court not overpoweringly strong but them she used a wood racquet for most of her career until she switched to the Wilson ProStaff 85. Given todays technology they would have done even better.

Martina won 86% of her singles matches and 87% of doubles. Early in their career she partnered with Chrissy and they won a couple of Grand Slams. Martina was ranked #1 for 3 years at one point and 9 times in total. In terms of athleticism and conditioning Martina would blow both the Williams sisters away. Doubles is more about placement and touch not power so Chrissy & Martina for sure.

Venus' singles wins percentage is only 81% and for doubles 84% most with Serena. Venus was #1 ranked on 3 occassions for 3 weeks each time. Serena was #1 once for 13 months. Serena's is 83% for singles and 86% for doubles. And they are both in the prime of their careers wait til they hit the down turn as they get older those %'s will drop. If they are such a great doubles team how did they lose 14 - 16% of their matches. At least Chrissy had the excuse of playing Martina & Pam who won 21 Grand Slam Doubles titles together compared to just 2 for Martina & Chrissy. The Williams only have 6.

Chrissy won 8 Doubles Titles 3 of them Grand Slams.

The Williams sisters pale in comparison to either Chris or Martina even in the singles category, how much more in doubles. The sisters don't stand a chance at all. They will be clobbered.

I'm going to side, ever so slightly, with elgato67 on this one.

Todays athletes are faster, stronger and better equipped than yesterdays. However, anyone who's ever played doubles competitively will tell you that power counts for very little in doubles. It's all about placement and angles because with two opponents, you have less court to work with. You've only slightly enlarged the court in only one dimension but you doubled your opposition.

It would be a great 3-set match-up and I do think the Williams' would try to hit Chris off the court but I'd have to give the edge to experience on this one all things being equal.

Just to be different, I'm going to say Martina & Crissy. Has anyone checked out how many doubles titles Martina has with just about anyone as a partner. I think its in the 100's. Experience in doubles will win this doubles match
