I still haven't bought my best friend a birthday gift. We've agreed that we definitely don't need any more knick-knacks that will just take up space. She said she'd like a good devotional or something. I'd like to get her a very good Christian book, not necesarily a devotional, but along those lines. She reads extremely quickly, but if the writing style is old fashioned and flowery, she probably won't get much out of it.
She's single, and has struggled with that in the past. She's at the point now where she says she doesn't even want to have anything to do with guys, but I think her extremity is unhealthy. I'm not sure if I have anything else to add, but any reccomendations would be immensely appreciated.

Ok, I've realized I wan't quite clear enough. I'd like a non-fictions book, not a novel. She doesn't need to expand her reading range or anything, she's read Pilgril's Progress, Lord of the Rings, Chrincles of Narnia, and the Harry Potter series (as a matter of fact, she was incredibly grumpy yesterday becasue she stayed up so late finishing that book the other night)
I hope that helps, thanks!

Sorry, one more time. She's read Eragon, too, and she by no means reads only Religious themed books, She reads a ton, as she's homeschooled. That's just the kind of book I want to get her.

Where the Red Fern Grows will make you CRY! Also, A Walk To Remeber by Nicholas Sparks...will be a VERY good choice. Very Christian and heartbreaking. Lord of the Rings was written by Tolkien, a very faithful catholic. Those are the three I've come up with.

If she likes animals and you can find them James Herriot has four really good books about his practice as a small town vet.
The books are good and long about 500pg. and a pretty good mix of hilarity and life lessons with a little sad thrown in here and there.
All Creatures Great and Small
All Things Bright and Beautiful
All Things Wise and Wonderful
The Lord God Made Them All
They read well either separately or together

Harry Potter - interesting fictional work... popular so she can relate to others or you can get her "Carrie" by Stephen King. Also, "The Stand" by Stephen King is a good read.
I know these aren't "religious" books, but it sounds like your friend needs to expand her perspective beyond religious themed books.
I just means that she really doesn't have faith if she can't venture out of her religious theme.
A non-fiction book recommendation would be along the lines of living with schizophrenia.

I just finished reading Redeeming Love. It is amazing. It's the story of Hosea setting in the 1850s. I don't like the flowery language, and this doesn't have any. It has an amazing love story about faithful love. A must read for any teenage girl.

You could try the DaVinci code, I really enjoyed that one, it has a lot of history about the church.
If your friend likes fantasy you could try Lord of the rings or Chronicles of Narnia.
And also in the Fantasy category you could try Harry Potter, despite what people say there are lots of themes in that book that are Christian related I.E. Courage, Friendship, Trust, it shows what hate and fear can make people do.
Happy searching.

A good read would be a book by Max Lucado, you can find his writings in most bookstores and all Christian bookstores, I would suggest Living Life in Your Sweet Spot, it is a very good read, and is both entertaining and inspirational. Look for other books by him too and see if you can find one that best suits your friend.
