I've been thinking and I realize that I know nothing about our government, except for the "freedom" and "equality" part. What's going on up there, as far as Iraq, new laws, the president, conflict, whatever. What's is going on?!? Who are we trying to protect America from and why, who's a threat, who's our ally . . . WHAT do we stand for?

You know less than you think: "Freedom" and "Equality" are two of the three watchwords of the French Revolution (along with Brotherhood), not the American. The American Revolution can perhaps be summed up with the three rights from the Declaration of the Independence: Life, Liberty, and the Persuit of happiness. 'Equal' does come up, though. The Declaration also said that "all men are created equal" and the Constitution (eventually) gauranteed "equal treatment under the law." 'Equality' in the egalitarian sense, though, does not.

Watch Syriana. They speculate that corruption keeps us safe. Being the wealthiest nation in the world I assume we must be doing something right, obviously.
