Quite a lot of it does, but some really great CDs have been released in the last few weeks from some well known names...Mavis Staples, Lucinda Williams, Rickie Lee Jones, Patti Griffin and plenty of others.

A great way to find new music that you might like is to go to amazon.com and allmusic.com and look up some of your favorite music or artists. Farther down on the page you'll be able to find some suggestions of other artists you might like as well.

Another great site for lesser known music (and a pop singer free zone) is CDBaby.com.

On that site, you'll find a lot of local and regional artists playing every genre. And when you buy music from CDBaby, in many cases, you're buying DIRECT from the artist...no record company big wig is taking a cut.

Another site like CD Baby is the Homegrown Music Network. On both these sites you'll find some of the best music that most people have never heard of.

New music doesn't suck, you just aren't looking hard enough. Maybe you mean new music on muchmusic or new music on this radio station. Saying new music sucks is categorizing everything, must of which I'm sure you haven't heard. If you don't like new music then forget about popular tv and radio stations and get out there and find the new good music.
Myspace is a great place to start. Look up some of the favourite bands of artists you like and respect. Check out college radio stations or online radio stations. Go into a music store and ask the people who work their what they like (you may think they will try to sell you the new popular cd, but 90% of the time the people who work in music stores are more in tune with what is great and underground), or go to some clubs and check out live bands.
There are probaly some amazing musicians putting out new music in your hometown that you haven't even heard of yet.
Don't classify all new music as bad because of a few annoying singles.

I do agree. Most of the new music is pathetic. Especially pop and rock. Today's music for the most part degrades women, discriminates against races and sexuality. It makes no sense whatsoever. A lot of the artists are okay, but their talent is nothing compared to artists far before their time. People are more interested in the ignorance of the lyrics, as opposed to the overall talent of the artist.

I find my own music. I like the Breakbeat (Breaks) section on Beatport.com under the Genre category. Soul Runner the Super Style Deluxe Remix is a bad (as in good) song to drive to, especially when you're driving something really exquisite.

Music has sucked for a while now, there has been nothing of substantial worth since 2000. Jay-Z's black album = So so compared to his others. Nas' hip hop is dead album = So so compared to his others. Fabolous' album from nothing to something = So so compared to his others.

I have to agree. I love the older music, classics, baroque, and the
old bands. Glenn Miller, Spitfire band, The Ink Spots {who I met &
got their autographs} and some of the others. Canadian Brass.

Yeah it does but I have discovered new genres and artists to listen to who are not mainstream with the help of iTunes. I like M.I.A., Imogen Heap, Ceu, and Sara Tavares. Much better than all the mainstream crap.
