I have been a featured extra on a couple of films and have had to learn this the hard way.

Contact the Screen Actor's Guild in your state and ask for a recommendation. If you cannot find it then check on the national website: http://www.sag.org/sagWebApp/

Be aware that there are many who will want to represent you for a fee. They will disguise this fee as "acting classes" or "portfolio" fees. Don't fall for them. They are a dime a dozen and although some may find you work you should not have to pay to be represented. An honest agency will take a percentage of the work they find for you.

Good luck!

Never look in the Yellow Pages. Legitimate Talent Agents cannot have an ad in the Yellow Pages. They are NOT allowed, by state law, to advertise.

Agents look for actors that have a strong acting background. Audition for plays in the city where you live and invite agents to the production.

If you have to ask how to get an agent, you are NOT ready for one.

Don't look in the yellow pages (franchised agents are not allowed to advertise).

Don't hire a relative to be your agent. (Jeez!)

Submit your headshot and resume to all the talent agents in your city. Include information of any upcoming performances you may have. They may or may not call you back.

In the meantime, keep performing, keep studying. Agents want to make money off you, and the more skilled you are, the more gigs you will get, and the more money for everybody.

I agree with Newyorkgal17
agents look for great performers
so you should try your best
or you could have auditions
or look in the yellow pages!
and if you are really good at performing, then you dont need an agent
you could just hire a familyy member that you can trust
well good luck
