Would seem imperialistic and cause global backlash, from Anti-US countries.
Also, China has close ties with Cuba, and striking the country in any way would cause economic complications for the US, due to our broad trade agreements/economic relations with communist nations.

Venezuela has a large supply of oil, and attacking Cuba, one of their closest allies, would surely cause them to cut US oil supply, causing gas prices to soar, and dragging the US economy.

Too many cons to actually attack Castro, even though we would "free" their people. But look at Iraq. Regime change would cause global anger towards US policies.

Sanctions and CIA operations are as far as we'll ever go.

We couldn't do it before, either. Because of Russia.

We tried for years to kill him. He's more slippery than Bill Clinton. President Kennedy had assassins all over Cuba trying to kill him, but could never seem to get to him. I have no doubt there have been many attempts since then, too. The man lives a charmed life. Today, it would serve no purpose as everyone would know it was us anyway. Cuba has been communist so long that they would just continue to be communist even without good 'ol Fidel. The hope back then was that if Castro were to be killed, his regime would collapse. It is just too well established now for that to happen.

It has been attempted, they just couldnt get the job done in a 'quiet manner'. Lets be honest, if the U.S. did an all out invasion they could have executed him a long time ago. But the government NORMALLY likes to be secretive of this sort of thing.

Iraq was the exception, they did not have to be so secretive, they only had to lie about why they were invading. After installing a puppet government they could execute Saddam by claiming the Iraqi people did it.

As far as Castro? Obviously the C.I.A. couldnt get it done.

It took too long for the republicans to get control of things in DC and as we all know the democrats never accomplish anything. Kennedy screwed up twice and Johnson was a do nothing president. By the time Nixon got in there were more pressing things to do like settle the Nam mess the Democrats made. The present do nothing congress is a prime example of the inability of Democrats to get things done. They waste time on dead issues instead of tackling important things like getting control of the oil company profits. Have no fear 2008 is coming and things will change. If the democrats keep up the games both houses and the presidency will be controlled by the republicans.

Tried and failed, on numerous occasions.

The more reasonable question would be: When Castro overthrew Batista and approached the US for help, why didn't we deal with him then instead of creating an opening that the USSR could exploit?
