4 hours after the appointment? My friend had a 1:00 appointment yesterday, & we were there for 4 hours until the doctor finally came in & saw her. & the electricity went out for 20 minutes on top of that.

OMG. I would absolutely hate that. If a doctor keeps you waiting that long, you always have the option of rescheduling. However this does not help if you are seeing the doctor because you are in the middle of an illness. Rescheduling only works for check-ups or re-checks.

However, I managed a surgeon's office for five years and I can tell you that in most places, the office staff schedules properly and the doctor screws up the schedule. So you can complain to the office staff but the doctor does not usually listen to them. COMPLAIN TO YOUR DOCTOR unless there is a good reason. Sometimes someone comes, as a patient, who is much sicker than they have said and it does take the doctor longer.

It makes me mad that you have to schedule an "appointment" to see a doctor and it takes that much longer to get in. Don't see why it can't just be on a walk-in basis. That's practically what it is anyway. I hate when they say if you're 10 minutes late for the appointment you'll be rescheduled but they're 4 hours late on getting you in to see the doctor. Makes me want to just slap everyone in the office :)

I do that hate! I work for an HMO currently and have figured out the trick. My lunch is from 1-2. The doctors/nurses go to lunch from 12-1, so I make my appointment at 1. I'm the first one to be seen, before it gets backed up!

I would never wait that long. I get the first appointment of the day and if they make me wait I raise hell. I refuse to be treated like that. I would switch doctors in a heartbeat if that happened to me.

Yes I do hate it. My time is valuable to me. And you have to keep in mind that the doctor is in service to you. You are paying. I won't wait more than 1/2 hour.

I never wait longer than an hour, and if they tell me it will take over 1 hour to see the Dr., I will leave, and reschedule. Never would I wait that long. No way.
