What are you, what do you think the government should be and why?

Personally I'm a moderate, I think that the government should be more moderate because if the "religious right" takes over then America will be an irresponsible, fascist, theocratic political backwater and if the far left liberals take over then we will be living in the U.S.S.A. I think that the government should be moderate and rather than becoming polarized and screaming at each other that people should calmly discuss policy. That in my opinion would make the U.S. a generally more pleasant place to live.

I think the stage is being set for the end of the United States of America. It won't matter who your party affiliation is. I am not a radical. I go to many different sites & what I hear & see is truley frightening. Our sovereignty is at great risk. There are many reasons why we can no longer pledge allegience to the flag of the United States of America. You won't get the real news on American TV. Not when 80 - 90% of the US media is owned by 6 or 7 special interest groups. You can only get unsolicited news online and even that is trying to be overturned through NSA groups.

Some people have heard of the North American Alliance and the "super highway" to be built from Mexico thru the US to Canada. Why is this never mentioned in the US Media? Why isn't our Govt taking the open border issue seriously? Hmmm.....

Why give millions of illegal hispanics amnesty when they have already proven it will NOT be good for America or it's citizens? Why continue with foreign trade policies that do not benefit Americans or protect their jobs? Why allow food product imports from China & other foreign countries who do not have the same standards the FDA allows? Wasn't that the reason they gave for not allowing Americans to buy drugs from Canada?

And what's with the passport issue between our northern & southern borders? One of the 911 Commissions Recommendations. Can't get it done because the Govt didn't plan right for the overload of requests? Hmmm....

Oh, by the way, I'm a new Independent. I don't trust my Govt in the least to look out for my interests. Check out worldnetdaily.com. For news with views. The last great frontier (the internet) in my opinion, is on it's way out.

I don't know. I am socially liberal and very much against religion in politics, pro-life, pro-stem-cell-research, and generally against any moral idea, except for not violating another person's rights, being institutionalized.

But economically, I believe that no one should have to die or suffer a major illness because they don't have enough money. How can anyone let our own countrymen and women die in a hospital because we refuse for our tax dollars to be used for their care? I also believe that we do have a responsibility to introduce the value of hard work into impoverished regions, but I am not sure how to do so. I am against making any payment/donations which provide anything more than life sustainability. But perhaps paying the families of children in impoverished regions for their child's excelled performance in schools (say, a 3.0 g.p.a.) via tax reductions or food stamps, isn't a bad idea. In the end, the more educated people we have in a country the better that country grows economically. This must be carefully balanced, of course, because any economist will tell you that the more modern and technologically advanced an economy is, the better it is for EVERYONE in that economy.

I'm a moderate. The government will always fluctuate depending on the times.

I have a strange theory that due to fear of the end of the world the theocrats had an edge in the 2000 elections, but their power is waning, and is probably going to continue to wane because people are waking up to the fact that they are holding back science in this country, and that is the one thing that the U.S. needs to be the world leader in. Not all of them - just far too many. Scientists are actually leaving the country to go to places where they can do research, and the last thing the U.S. needs is a "brain drain". History is going to look back at this time and wonder "what the heck were they thinking?" - wait and see.

Also, do you remember G.W.B. promising that there would be no moral scandals in his administration? Looks like that didn't happen!

I'm a liberal and I think the majority of Americans are in the middle or moderates. We just want our government to be reasonable and to not legislate based on what one religious group, special interest group, donor, lobbyist or corporation tells them. I think most Americans are jaded with our current political system and just want to feel like they have a voice and to feel like someone is fighting for them. We need to make elections publicly funded. PERIOD. And limit personal contributions to $100.00 from each person. No one should have more of a say in what our government does, just because they have more money.

Conservative.

The government should be Constitutional. Currently, it is bloated beyond all Constitutional limits. When the government, and that includes all 3 branches and both major parties, is not restrained by the Constitution, and it currently is not, then our rights, our freedoms, our liberty and our prosperity are all in peril.

Please understand, your liberals and even you moderates believe in a government that is not bound by the Constitution, and in that, you're not only wrong, you're supporting the ruination of everything that made America great.

I was born 1960 and my dad was stationed at Lockheed research with special USAF base at Sunnyvale Ca until 1964. Only my sister is free from a rare blood cancer. She was born right before we moved. My dad was only a teletyper (crypto) but he was ordered to wear a rad badge. At the time he didnt think anything about it and thought if it turn color then he was exposed. Kennedy was Pres. I know longer trust any part of my government, liberal or conservative, right or left, rep or dem. or the military. MY family use to fight if someone bad mouthed this country. That was before we knew that our country murdered us 40 years ago. So what do you really think I care about whether its Dems or Reps . Who knows how many more people they have killed. They sprayed Agent Orange at over 150 sites in the US in the 60's /70's but still wont help any of those peope exposed. Our country really needs some moral and ethical change.

Conservative. Moderates are those who are not willing to take a stand.

When Republicans run on strong Republican values: limited government, lower taxes, etc. they win in landslides. 1980 with Reagan and 1994 with Contract with America.

I think the federal government should be stripped down to it's original purpose..National security and making sure the states do not overstep themselves with the people. The states should be given more power. Conservative.

I'm libertarian, but left leaning.

What the government should be like is what it was made to be from day 1: a republic.

Q: What have you created here?
A: A republic, if you can keep it.
