so many try and SO MANY FAIL!...and I have heard many many try including myself (been playing for 30 years)...but NOBODY can master that solo. I don't even think Eddie could play it the same after that. But, you have to give him Props for recording one of the greatest guitar solos of all time. I have yet to hear another solo on any rock album that can withstand test of time and still sound fresh 30 years later. Eddie rules!

I really don't think even Edward Van Halen can play "Eruption" exactly like he played on the first record. His style of playing, and the kinds of guitars he plays, and his technique has shifted a lot since like 1977-78. It's interesting to see him playing part of it from a live concert video from 1978. It used to be on You Tube, but I'm not sure if it's there anymore. ...someone must have filmed it on Super-8 film from the audience or something. (it's the oldest footage I've ever seen of VH in concert) The quality is not good, but you can compare the old Eruption with the way it is now. Quite a contrast.

There is one part nobody can get. It is the part when he jumps an octave and plays that super fast blues run/scale with bends. The most awesome part of the solo for me. Everyone always improvises this part because it is IMPOSSIBLE to get it just perfect or even close to perfect. lol You're right, nobody like Eddie Van Halen

yeah actually i have, i was at a guitar center and was messing around with a schecter when all of the sudden i heard this guy behind me start shredding out the song perfectly, i mean there was no error in his playing and it sounded exactly the same. the guy was just some normal guy probably in his late 30's and if you saw him walking down the street you would never even know that he was an awesome guitar player.

dude, no one can play the same thing he can!!!!!! i mean, certain parts can be learned. like the tapping part with is most popular (i know it but am not great at it) and the beginning. but other than those two, ppl get lost along the way and just can't play it. so your answer is no, i've never heard anyone play it as great. and yes Eddie Van Halen does rule! i'd love to meet him if i ever had the chance. he seems so chill!
