How can everyone be so up in arms on legalizing marijuana when legal prescription drugs have been shown to kill when they are supposed to help.

They just found out two diabetes medications greatly increases heart failure risks, even in low dosages. We all remember Vioxx....

WTF! Why is everyone coming down on marijuana when these drugs have proven much more dangerous, yet their legal. And with regard to the new story about psychosis among pot smokers, if you read the entire article, they eventually admit they cannot prove that pot use alone was the cause.

"The researchers said they couldn't prove that marijuana use itself increases the risk of psychosis..There could be something else about marijuana users, like their tendency to use other drugs or certain personality traits, that could be causing the psychoses," Zammit said.

Calleen-I am college educated, make a hell of a living at the #1 law firm in the state of Michigan, work 40hours a week, pay my bills on time, and take care of my family. DO NOT SPEW YOUR PROPAGANDA HERE! I am no junkie. You are the same type of person who will rationalize the legalization of cigarettes and alcohol, when they're both know to cause serious health problems including death. You are not logical.

Illegal drugs are only illegal because of ignorant panic over 100 years ago.
Almost all illegal drugs start off as either prescription meds or were prescribed off-label from doctors - even cocaine.
It was the over-use and abuse by some that created panic (usually ignorant people) and pushed congress to make certain drugs illegal which created a domino effect. It is widely believed that if the lawmakers could foresee the billions of dollars spent on the "war against drugs", prison overcrowding, DEA, drug-related crime, etc - They would have NEVER made them illegal. They would have made drugs available to the public with restrictions...just as they do with the DRUGS alcohol and cigarettes. Caffeine is also a legal, yet unregulated drug. It is ridiculous.
Methadone is a good example of a regulated high you can get - so is Adderal (not sure if that's spelled correctly), a legal amphetamine which has the same effect and side-effects as crystal METH. They hand out that crap to kids like candy...which (ironically) in my opinion, candy coupled with caffeine is the reason kids develop ADHD in the first place.
America has made some of the most harmful laws which do nothing but made drug cartels rich and addicts commit crimes to pay for the high-priced drugs.
The anti-drug laws were a HUGE mistake and have cost millions of lives, trillions of dollars and a continuous exercises of futility to stop something that didn't need to be stopped in the first place - wasting time, money and resources. However, there is a theory that drugs like adderal are merely just the beginning of the clever maneuver to make prescription drugs which simulate all illegal ones - so they can get around the impossible feat of legalizing and just start regulating the prescription versions - Making them affordable and less harmful by keeping them clean and free of additives (or cut) so the danger of overdose or poisoning is somewhat decreased.
Pot may unfortunately be the hardest to mimic, because you normally smoke it. There is a THC pill in testing right now, but I doubt people will be all to thrilled about a "pot-pill" in the long run.
Personally, I hate pot - makes me paranoid. But Id rather people smoke pot than drink. (I'm a drinker by nature, but quit due to all the raging alcoholics in my family!) Alcohol, while legal, is one of the most harmful and addictive of any drugs and has killed or harmed more than people will ever admit - drunk driving, alcohol poisoning, cirrhosis of the liver, alcoholism related depression, alcohol induced rapes, DT seizure death, etc.

amen sister. Just about everyone agrees with you....it's the deals made in dark rooms filled with cigar smoke that stear this country and not common sense. Remember when sugar was used in everything? Cokes, candy etc? Then all of a sudden that corn syrup crud stuff was added....it was a back deal...the only way you can get a coke with sugar is from Mexico and let me tell you..they are awesome. Booze is an actual poison. the feeling of being drunk is the direct result from being poisoned. and ask any cop, over (yes over) 90% of all domestic abuse called involve booze. if someone is calling 911 at 3am you know damn well its not stoners..lol....the only bad thing about pot is that you may find yourself not being as involved in life as you normally would...now me on the other hand...i clean up the house and work out and stuff when im high..lol.....meth heads? omg dont get me started....people steal for that stuff.....coke...people trade thier babies for that too....can u imagine someone trading thier kid for a bag of weed? yeah right...haha...my brother is a cop and he said in all the years on the beat...nobody on weed has ever caused a problem...its all booze, meth and coke...and really heroin is bad too..but they just stay put and throw up usually...

The war on drugs is an important tool in order to keep down the middle class and poor people. It's been shown that they get far tougher penalties than rich people.

For example, Lindsay Lohan recently had cocaine in her car when arrested. Will she get prison?

unfortunately many people believe the hype about how horrible pot is without anything to back it up.
My dad died from liver cancer and pot was better at controlling his pain than morphine...he actually traded his morphine for pot.
YES pot works but anyone can grow it and that means no $$$ for the pharmacutical companies.
it is all about the benjamins

I couldn't agree with you more, but it's the government's (along with pharmaceutical companies) way of making money. it's not right, but in your line of work -- I'm sure you see injustice every day.

take care.
