Want a nice place to rent, that is in the suburb... no Ghetto or no where close to it

Very close to those two towns are Bloomfield, Montclair, Nutley and Belleville. Just be careful of the particular areas in Bloomfield and Belleville - some are not as nice as others, in particular where they border Newark.
Glen Ridge is beautiful, but I do not know of any rentals in that town.
Avoid East Orange. I don't recommend Clifton unless you can get into the Athenia section.

Hoboken is great if you can afford it. Livingston, Summit, etc. Most of those towns are nice. Avoid Plainfield and Elizabeth and any of the big towns.
