I know there are other brands of small engines but i'm buying a pressure washer and Honda and Briggs seems to be the only ones on the market for pressure washers.Which do you prefer??

Thanks for all the good answers from everyone but it looks like no matter what name brand i buy it isnt gonna matter.Since there are so many opinions and the brand names are rating about 50/50. I think whatever brand i buy whether it be Briggs or Honda,i will be fine with it and either name brand should last me a long time with proper maintenance. Thanks, this is gonna go up for a vote.

Honda is always good. period.
Briggs makes a wide range of qualities. You'll have to ask questions about what distinguishes a certain Briggs engine from another.
when in doubt, if $ is not the object, buy the Honda.

From personal experience I'd go with Briggs and Stratton. I've had B and S generators that have been given such a hammering that the cradles are warped and twisted but the motor just keeps on going and going. Honda engines are very good and I've had Honda quads and outboards and given the engines some serious abuse but they just don't seem as good as the B and S ones. On the plus side, the Honda motors are quieter and seem more economical. I guess there's very little in it but if it were me doing the buying I'd go for the B and S.

I would have to vote for the Briggs & Stratton engine. They have been nothing but reliable to me. Neighbor's that have had Honda's, and Tecumsuhs, and others, have had me help them with with their various engines in the past. The current equipment that I have, has been around for literally decades now. They have been through 3 or 4 lawnmowers, and I am still on the same one. It still starts on the second or third pull every time, every year.
I will never go with any other brand.
(no, I am not paid by the company)

Unless you buy THE TOP line B&S engine I think you will be happier with the Honda. I have a Honda engined mower and pressure washer and have had both for years. I change oil about once a year and aside from that all I have ever done is use them.
I researched the cost of THE TOP line B&S engine I am talking about when I bought the pressure washer and the Honda was less expensive.

I just sold my last Briggs & stratton lawnmower and will only use a Honda. The reliability of Honda is great and no problems. I have a Honda snowthrower and trimmer. Not to mention both of my cars - Accord & Civic. After you break in the engine drain out the break in oil and replace it with Royal Purple Synthetic oil you will not be dissappointed.

The Honda is a good choice. It is quieter and smoother running than Briggs generally. But, Briggs engines are also good. Both will last a long time with proper maintenance and use. Your main consideration, I guess, is how much you want to pay. Hondas are generally more expensive and parts can also be much more expensive than Briggs.

go with B&S. i had a honda pressure washer and it is a tool you dont use too often, and on the hondas the valves almost always stick when in storage for a long period of time and even in normal use. both are reliable engines, and both make over head valve engines that are very fuel efficent, its really a personal choice. but briggs are more commonly used in outdoor tools and are cheaper, and its easier to get replacement parts should something break. id go with briggs.

Briggs n stratton are very reliable but pricey on parts but are going to be available forever, you will be able to get spares forever and ever as well.
Honda is less long life but much easier and cheaper to get parts for but they may discontinue the engine model after a period of time.
Honda is definately more power and torque and personally, i would favour the honda...
I would determine how long you see yourself keeping the machine and whether it will have paid for its self within a couple of years....

I currently own 4 self propel Honda lawnmowers because I operate a small lawn mowing business as a secondary souce of income. Three of them are over 20 years old and have needed nothing more than oil changes and air filters - and I beat the crap out of these things too. Small honda motors, in my experience, are virtually impossible to kill.
