That can be interpreted in different ways.

This can mean that something that begins as an imperfection or flaw can grow to be as beautiful as a rose because the thorns grow before the rose.

It can mean that even something as beautiful as a rose has its flaws...nothing is perfect.

There are a lot of ways that it can be understood. I prefer the first one I said the most myself.

Balance.

Yin and yang, positive and negative. That is the ebb and flow of life. If it were all roses, you wouldn't appreciate the roses. So there are thorns to keep you on your toes. Life gives us bad so that we appreciate the good even more. Yes there is beauty in life and yes you may get hurt but the beauty is worth the pain. You choose what to focus on. Focus on the beauty.

Some of the most beautiful things in this world are borne out of great pain (like babies, pearls, works of art etc). Sometimes it is pain which pushes us to become greater than we are & achieve miraculous things...

Thorns in the roses aren't very related with live but as there are enemies for the roses they need a way to protect themselves, so thorns are the way that roses stay alive and pretty against their enemies.

All living things have protection e.g. your skin on your body protect your organs, so does thorns for a rose. And YES, Life is Great you just have to make the best of it. p.s. Always look for the bright side of life and move away from the dark side (wrong) and you will have a great life.

nothing is perfect in this world - life is not nor is the rose! - its a life lesson we all will do well to remember! Those of us who waste our life looking for perfect partner, perfect moment, perfect mood........ every thing has to be taken with a pinch of salt - hence the thorn in the rose :)

A prickly subject. The Rose like life has its beauty and fragrances, life has its trouble spots and perfumes. We need both to appreciate the difference of how dangers can be avoided.
