Neo-cons are more geared towards expanding American influence around the world and social issues like abortion. Neo-cons are perfectly happy to expand gov't in ways they like.

Reaganism, or what I'll call good old fashioned conservatism is about having isn't about expanding American influence around the world, but will certainly confront enemies and threats. They are also a lot more domestically geared towards reducing gov't and taxes. True, they get into the social issues too, but less so than the neo-cons.

When Reagan was wrong he said he was wrong and changed course. (In most cases.) Neo-cons will push their views to the last man even in the face of overwhelming fact and opinion saying they are wrong.

I don't know that there ever was "Reaganism". There were forces at work in his whitehouse bent on perverting everything America holds dear. Who knows if Reagan knew about all the secret wars, drug running, arms sales, dealings with terrorist and so on that was going on at the time. The neo-cons were at work then and still at work now. The should be in jail.

None. Reagan was a front man for the neo-con movement. Under his Administration, control of the Republican Party passed from true Conservatives to the neo-cons (and their backwoods, snake-handling puppets) and gave the neo-cons (primarily through presidential appointments) their first real foothold in the government.

Like him or not, Ronald Reagan actually CARED about people. Did you know he wrote checks out of his own pocket for down-and-out farmers? If you want to understand what conservatism was REALLY supposed to be about, read Smith, Burke, the founding fathers, and also Eric Hoffer. Also check out the late Barry Goldwater. Today's "neocons" are nothing but a sham, callously calculated to exploit undereducated voters. Reagan's biggest flaw in my opinion was his bending over backwards (late in his career) to "religious" flakes. Barry Goldwater went in exactly the opposite direction.

Real conservatives fight for lower taxes, stronger defense, values...

Neo Cons are highly idealogical, pushing their POV regardless of the facts or future implications.

Better question: What is the difference between Reagan & GW Bush?

From the definition: (and watch, this won't be popular) The term neoconservative was first used derisively by democratic socialist Michael Harrington to make clear that a group, many of whom called themselves liberal, was actually a group of newly conservative ex-liberals. The name eventually stuck, both because it was reasonably accurate, and because neoconservatives came to accept that they were, in fact, conservative. The idea that liberalism "no longer knew what it was talking about" became one of the central themes of neoconservatism, and by the 1980s, being considered a conservative was far from an insult.

Reaganism or Reagan conservatives are not this. They are of more traditional conservative ideas.

Noconservatism (a real misnomer) differs little from Reaganism except in that it is more intensely reactionary and lacks a charismatic figurehead that can fool people of border-line cretinism.

Reagonism = do nothing and say you're being conservative.

Neo-Conservatism = poop on everything and say you're being conservative.
