The Righteous Brothers supposedly changed their name when a fan at one of their appearances yelled "That's righteous, brothers." I don't know what they called themselves before. Righteous being a late 1950's slang for great, cool etc.

They adopted their name in 1962 while performing together in the Los Angeles area as part of a five-member group called The Paramours, which featured John Wimber, one of the founders of the Vineyard Movement, on keyboards. At the end of one particular performance, a Black marine in the audience shouted, "That was righteous, brothers!", prompting the pair to adopt the name and embark on a career as a duo.

They got their name after a concert they had in 1962. A black marine in the audience shouted "that's righteous, brother", and the name was born.

Yes I do. They were playing somewhere and some black guy in the audience heard their vocal harmonies and said "That's righteous, brothers!" At least that's what I heard. I don't know for sure if its true or not.

they were playing a gig and the manager came up to them and said "That was righteous..." they thought it sounded good so they incorporated into their name.

the true story i saw goes like this. they played a gig and the audience was all black, they thought they would get booed. but the black crowd said your allright brothers,hence the name .that was a true documentry i saw on tv .
