Not a fire. Nuclear maybe, at any time. But not likely, and not likely soon. our world doesnt end till we do. Media is doing this to make rich people richer..... before the world ends.
It could also be a huge meteor.
Its not ending in our lifetime.

Hi Annie....The media are talking about the Mayan Calendar and what they had predict due to the alignment of the planets and stars that was destined for the year 2012. Now the Mayans did believe that in the year 2012 that earth as we know it, was going to be destroyed by devastation caused by earthquakes, volcano activity and possible meteors. Now to my knowledge, the Mayans didn't know about nuclear explosions in their era so how could one predict such a disaster if it wasn't known in their culture. Secondly, one has to 'think' of the time that the Mayans predicted this conclusion of the 'world coming to an end'. The Mayans wouldn't have known of our technology as we have today to possibly stop a situation such as this. This would have been beyond their knowledge capability. So with this in mind, I believe that the Mayans are pre warning us on what could happen and to figure out possible ways of stopping an occurrence such as this. The Egyptians also predicted the 'world coming to an end' but I believe that their prediction was much later on in years than the Mayans. Do I believe? Well..in a sense I do but not in the sense that the Mayans predicted. I believe we might have devastation due to more hurricanes and floods, and possible earthquakes and volcano activity but I don't see our world coming to an end so do speak. I'm not going to dwell on an issue that may or may not occur. Hope this has helped. Have a blessed day!

As some others have said, the world isn't due to end for several million years at least.
Unfortunately, some folk have picked up on either an ancient Mayan prophecy which, they say, suggests the 2012 date.
Some christians also seem to put a lot of faith in the book of revelations, despite the fact it was added to the Bible much later and the events described more likely pertain to times of its writing rather than any portents for the future.
The media, though, they just like a good 'end of the world' story. i think i've already lived through half a dozen of them at least..

Christians and Jews say this is the last generation.
But I couldn't care.
Because I'm 16 and I want to live my life.
Every time gas prices go up everyone says it's the end of the world. It's craziness and I'm tired of hearing it.
I bet the Japanese during WWII thought it was the end of the world when they were getting bombed then too. And look how long ago that was.

The media does this because they know there are enough ignorant, gullible and stupid people out there to take this drivel seriously.
The world is likely to end in around 4 billion years when the sun turns into a red giant. I'm already packing.
