I was in Bath, U.K. recently, and over an arcade carved in stone, there were these 2 dogs with womens heads on.

I am familiar with Griffin's and Chimeras, but what are these called.

It was either another strange creature in mythology distantley realted to the sphinx or I think it was just a carving to symbolize the importance of the dog and its contribution to society.

The only thing that comes to mind is a sphinx, possibly an andro-sphinx or gyno-sphinx.
