Sometime its the littlest thing, like making sure it stipulates she gets her maiden name back, or to make sure she really does get everything she wants, everyone who gets divorce usually has a lawyer look over the papers to make sure they are on the "up & up". Alimony is different in every state and it also usually depends on how long they were married, I would tell your brother not to stress out to much.

When you are the person that is filing for divorce, after the other party is served, they have 30 days to look over the paperwork and see if they want to change anything. She is getting a lawyer because she has an issue with the paperworks She wants to contest it.

It is not a bad idea at at all for her to have some representation when your papers are signed. When they are presented to the court it is more "ironclad" if she had some legal counsel.
When I divorced my ex I made sure she had a lawyer look everything over. I didn't want any surprises. She is just protecting herself. Trust me, this is not a bad thing and I'm surprised your brother's lawyer hasn't mentioned this. Lawyers always recommend the opposing party has some sort of counsel.

Too many "if's" here to answer this question. Are there kids involved? If not, I don't know what the big deal is with the wife unless she is expecting alimony. It would be hard to determine if she's due that without knowing how long they had been married, etc. Depending on what state your brother lives in would determine what I would do next if I was him. If he lives in a state where marital assets are split 50/50 then I would tell the ex to sign the papers or he will change them where he gets 50% of everything.

It's normal to have a lawyer check the papers out. She wants to make sure everything is in order. Divorces, even the uncontested one, can be complicated. She just protecting her assets. Don't worry, it's normal and actually a smart thing for her to do.

shes probably watched too much TV and is unsure of herself and her legalrights so shes thinking its to her benefit to waste money on an attorney and thats thereno legalloopholes shes missing.Shes just erring on the side of caution so your brother has nothing to worry about. If they do come upwth something your brother will be notified of any changes or desires otherwise the papers will come back signed and notorized

your brother may not be asking anything but she may be asking for something, she has probably consulted a lawyer because she may have some assets that she wants protected or your brother has some assets that she is after
