A group of friends and I had planned a road trip for Saturday. The father of one of the guys going got sick and is dieing. He went to be with his father, which just happens to be to the place where we planned the road trip. The rest of us were going to cancel the trip (we were going to a huge party there). When I told the guy this, he said no to us cancelling and that he expects us to be there no matter what. Anywho, I am still going but the others are not. Now they are upset with me for still wanting to go. I explained to them that this guy wants us all to be there. I get the impression it is for moral support, you know a friendly face, a bit of diversion from a stressful situation. This guy's dad has been sick for a long time so this is not sudden news about his declining health.

Would you go to be with one friend at the risk of upsetting other friends? I really want to go support him. He sunded like he really needs his friends around him.

Thanks everyone. I knew I was thinking the right way, but sometimes you just need a sounding board to make sure it sounds right. As for the party, he said he still wants to go for a bit; you know check up on old school buddies and stuff.

Again Thank You all.

You are right, if he asked - he needs it. Go. If the others can't see that then they really aren't true friends. It's sad that the father isn't well, but sometimes a distraction from reality does wonders. Go, be respectful, but have a good time.

If your other friends are getting upset with you because you want to support a friend that needs you...then they are the ones that are cracked. You are wanting to do the right thing. Go there and be with him. He needs someone as caring as you to be by his side. If the other friends don't want to go...then those are not the kind of people that he needs to have around him right now.

You know what the right thing is....just do it!

I would definitely go! Your friend obviously needs some support right now. Don't worry if you upset your other friends. Why are they so upset anyhow? If they were true friends they would be there for him as well.

i think you shoud go.
i would atleast... like you need to go be with the friend that needs you the most, and if your other friends dont support that then you should leave them here.. thats terrible that they dont want to go support a friend whos dad is dieing..
theres nothing worse than loosing a parent..

but i dont suggest you go to the party.. stay with your friend ;]

I would consider going but not to party like you said a familiar face a shoulder what ever but I don't think it would be wise to party.

you're other friends sound selfish for not wanting to go visit him.
i think you should go visit your friend who's father is sick.
he'll be thankful for supporting him and the others will eventually understand.

Yes, I would go. The friend was crystal clear that he wants you to come - nothing else matters. Be there for your bud.

You should be there for your friend for support. He probably won't tell you this but he need you right now.
