i have a 1989 cadillac deville and when ever i turn on the air conditioner i get cold air for about 5 to 10 sec before the fuse blows out and i lose the all the systems regulated by that fuse which include the digital gas guage, air conditionar, rear defroster, and a few others, any ideas as to why this happens and how to fix it would be helpful, thankyou

If it only blows when you select AC, then just unplug the compressor and try it again. If the fuse doesn't blow and you have the proper size fuse in there, the compressor clutch coil has had it meaning it's shorted internally and needs to be replaced. Just be sure that the component you have unplugged is the one causing the short. Coils often cause shorts when used as they have to heat up before they actually short which sure sounds like the case here. Good luck.

I believe you have the wrong size fuse in place, try one 5 amps more, fuses are for short circuits not to maintain current level

if it still blows there is a good bet your compressor is shot

you have a short circuit somewhere causing the fuse to blow or the fuse isnt the correct amperage called for by the manufacturer which should be on the back of the cover for the fuse panel.
