Well, I'm from Mexico, which is NA, but I think the same adheres here as well.
We like to blame someone else for our misfortunes, and Spain in the conquest age is a pretty easy target. They did this, and took away all this, bla bla bla.
But actually, it's us who's to blame to not be as wealthy. We don't work as smart, we demand a lot of things but don't want to do anything in return, we don't have a good eductation (both academin nor family-based).

South American countries would be just as wealthy as European countries if SA countries had governments worth a damn and populations educated and intelligent enough to demand democratic and capitalist governments.

Gee, maybe if SA countries weren't riddled with crime lords and tin pot dictators who didn't care about their people, then maybe they could move up to the coveted third world status they so strongly desire.
