In the case of children, business partners and employees...I make them repeat to me what I just said. Better to be thought a ***** than have a breakdown of communication.

Because most people are more interested in themselves than they are in you,,,and they know what they are preparing to say in so much more interesting and meaningful than what you are saying...
I think parents should teach their children to really listen,,by example would be effective,,,,
Have you ever tried asking the person you're talking to what you just said? This might be a good way to teach the children...then maybe, just maybe, we'd have a generation of listeners...

I think maybe its 'cooler' to say I'm a good listener than to actually tell the truth and say I really don't care what you have to say. Honesty is such a lonely word!

yeah, i hate that. i'd rather someone walk away or totally let you know they're not interested in listening, than pretend to listen and not really hear a word you've said.

People doing that are usually people with too many stories of their own, they are listening to their own thoughts.

They are saying that just to respect you,but they are not respecting you coz they are lying.Everyone does that to me all the time!
