i asked earlier what to do about a firmware problem with my mp3, and someone told me to download something, but will that cost any money, and if so how much. also, does it take long

It should not cost you any money at all. If you need is a firmware update, the manufacturer's site should have the update file available for downloading. They should also have the information for how the update should be applied to your unit. Downloading the update or installing it should not take very long.
