I mean, most of the bottled water is from tap anyways and it takes alot of energy to make a water bottle. How can water taste good if it is colorless, orderless, and tasteless? You're paying money to buy what is virtually free. The only reason I buy it is because flavored water doesn't come from tap.

As a comedian said "And the French person says : I bet that the Americans are so stupid that I can sell them water in a bottle."

You don't mind shelling out 2 bucks for water but you complain about gas prices. And did you know the Mayor of San Francisco banned bottled water in order to cut down the pollution it's making? It takes a thousand years for ONE bottle to rot.

When I went to Arrowhead lake and saw the people (illegally) swimming in the water, boating in it, ducks pooping in it, I permanently was off the 'pure' bottled spring water.

1. You still have to pay for the water that comes out of your tap. It's called your Water Bill, it comes from the place that sanitizes, chlorinates, and adds fluoride to your water. Ask your parents- they'll tell you all about it... since you obviously live at home.

2. I prefer to drink bottled water because it does not have all of the chemicals that tap water has. My pets won't drink the tap water where I live. That gives you an idea that not all tap water is good. I bought a water purification system for the whole house- each filter is supposed to last 6 months. I have to change mine every 2 months. The water smells like a dirty pool. I can't wait to sell this house and move!

3. I use a home delivery service that sanitizes and recycles the five gallon jugs. And I use a good old fashioned water bottle (the kind with the sipper thing in the lid that you take home and wash) from Wal-Mart when I need to take water with me to the gym or whatever. See? Smart consumerism.

And guess what... the average person comsumes 7 pubic hairs, 182 spiders, 13 finger/toe nails, and 1000 other hairs per year from packaged food and beverage items.

Do you really think Coca Cola is going to stop production if a spider gets into the vat?

Naive - that's brilliant! I only buy bottled water when I am out and about, haven't packed my own water and am really thirsty! I do hate how the prices of bottled water vary, some places are very cheap 80p and others extortionate at £1.20! Also, I wish people would stop criticising me when I order tap water when I am not drinking alcohol - I'm not being cheap, I genuinely like the taste of tap water so I am not going to pay a premium for a bottled, chemical-tasting version.

Move to a place that the water source is from a private well, drink some of the tap water and let me know if you still prefer tap over bottled.

I grew up in a house where the water smelled like eggs because of the iron and mineral content. My parents installed a water softener and an iron filter- and the water is still tastes awful. I don't care about buying water that is from a tap, as long as the water tastes good!

Where I live, there is a distinct difference in taste between bottled water and the tap water. The tap water is absolutley disgusting and the taste is only a part of it. Its also for safety reasons. Where I live there are thousands of dairies dumping their waste and such that does eventually make it into the water source, regulations are weak and un-enforced and the small towns in our area cannot afford to keep treatment fascilities up to code all the time.Because of that I would rather avoid tap water if at all possible. Bottled water makes it possible.Just cause its free, doesn't mean its good for you!

I HAVE to drink bottled water -- and I will only drink the ones from a spring (not purified tap water). There are certain chemicals and additives in tap water that make me physically ill and cause major stomach and intestine problems. Been drinking spring water since I was a child -- we used to go to the springs and "bottle" it ourselves way back then!

But I prefer using filtered water and reusable containers myself at home/work, to cut down on the pollution I create -- and I recycle the bottles if I buy bottled.

you MUST live in the country, because us city/suburb dwellers have some of the most disgusting tasting water. We HAVE to fresh spring water tap does taste gross. There isn't much difference in bacteria but I don't even care, I like the taste of water, but not tap water!(yes there is a difference in taste :-)) I know the comedian who said that anyways. And most bottled water doesn't come from tap. Most comes from springs (e.g. Evian, Figi, Aquafina, Dasani). Well think what you want, but I'll take fresh mountain over tap!

most people are buying it for the convenience of the bottle. I don't care about the quality of the water inside. In fact I like the tap water better (I have a filter on it). I fill up my bottle several times before finally recycling it.

To me bottled water tastes different from tap. Tap's got the most horrible taste, and I do taste the difference when I buy bottled water. I don't care if it comes from the same place, but at least they clean it up more. So I don't care, I'll keep on buying it.

Tbere are numerous reasons for this. For example, I buy bottled water because I am allergic to the chlorine in tap water.

Another reason could be if a person is defficient in a mineral like Calcium. Vittel, for example, contains unusually high levels of calcium. People could buy the water for this reason then.

Hope you found this interesting and informative!

Thank you!!

I'm always laughing at people when they say "ew! you drink from the tap! I only drink bottled!"

Personally, I'm a distilled water person but I pay extra for that. I do absolutely refuse though to pay for bottled water, 2 dollars for something you can get at the tap!
