I think a flat tax, possibly with a minimum income requirement might solve the problem.

A flat tax on gross earnings might work, with only a tax break for out of pocket medical expenses, does not cover elective surgery. Other then that a national sales tax would be simple all the way around.

Federal income tax on individuals is unconstitutional so the only fair thing for Americans is to abolish the tax code.

The income tax, by definition, is regressive because it taxes productivity. Ergo, it can not be made fair, because some ppl are more productive than others and they should not be penalized for that. The only thing we can do is abolish it and replace it with the fair tax, a tax on consumption. Those who consume more, pay more. That is fair.
Many in Congress say they want tax reform but that is a lie. They just want to figure out who to pander to to get re-elected. As my dear departed grandma used to say, 'you can't make a silk purse out of a sows' ear.'

Pass the FairTax!

Nick F, you need to read (or reread) the plan for H.R. 25 the FairTax. Under that plan, poor people actually have the coice to pay 0.0% of their income in taxes. And actually, no matter what you make, you would have that choice as well. How? By controlling your own spending. Spend money on ONLY WHAT YOU ABSOLUTELY NEED and you will be pre-bated all of the taxes that you spend on those goods.

Now that IS fair.

Step 1. Don't revise it. Completely re-write it. Make it so that you cut out all the loopholes. Work out the mathmatics so that below a certain level, no income tax, graduate it so that the more you make the more you will pay.

The bottom line is if you can't carry the entire tax code (personal and corporate)in your back pocket it's too big. If you need a CPA to interpret it, it's too complex.

Flat tax. If all Americans are trully created 'equal', all Americans should pay the same rate of income taxes.

Start by making corporations pay their taxes. I mean, since they make so much money off our backs, why is it that the biggest ones don't have to pay a red cent in taxes? hmmmm....
