There is a big difference. You can love someone and not be in love with them. I was married and loved him but wasn't in love with him and wasn't happy either. I am now married to the love of my life and I have been in love with him for over 3 years and am very happy.

omg, there is such a HUGE difference between the two. I learned that lesson many years ago. I admit I was quite surprised. I was in love the man (whom is now my husband), that was 27 years ago, we were best friends, knew what each thought about things. We were soul mates. I now know today I "love" the man I married, gave me my children. We live in peace, with our children which are 9. I am 47 he is 53. I figured it out many years ago, being young having it all, we are both police officers in New Orleans and do it all together. Sex went out the window, trust me that can happen and you still can have a relationship. I could go on forever. The main thing is know yourself and your mate.
When in doubt make a list two sides the good on one side and the bad on the other, then decide how you would be better off.

Hi you are asking if there is a difference well in my opinion I think that there is, but this term is used to loosely these days. So can I suggest that there are different levels of love and that it is the hardest emotion to explain yet alone understand.
Also no two people feel love in the same way or express it in the same way. Love is unique to the person who is feeling it. I also think that if you say that you love your husband but that you are not in love with him, then you feel as though you should be in love with him.Maybe to justify being married to him. Nothing is ever as simple as it seems. Do you long to be swept off of your feet, to feel passion flowing through your veins? is this why you assume that you are not in love with but just love your husband. Blumming complicated good luck and I hope you find the answer. Let me know if you do. xx

I know where you are coming from. I have heard 'I love you but I'm not in love with you' before. Either you love someone or you don't. I mean sure, there are different ways and degrees of loving. Love for your pets, love for your friends and family. I guess when a person say that they are not 'in' love that they mean the romantic love you should have for a partner. I hope that helps because that's all I got.

I think so. I believe that love is not just fuzzy, warm feelings for someone which people often describe as being in love. I believe that love is also an action. I'm not religious however, I think this quote from the bible does sum it up rather well
"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres."
It's being kind, caring, unselfish, forgiving, it's treating someone well...I think that's loving someone. Whilst being in love is more the feelings...which can come and go.

LOove is forever changing. The way I love someone today is not the same love I have for them five years down the road. Yes I still love them but in a totally different way. This is a fact of life.

there is a huge difference, the whole "in love/loving thing is a myth,The idea of being "in love" is just a ridiculous notion,a series of biochemical reactions in your brain that make you feel a whirlwind of emotions, but the truth is,that is not what makes marriages and relationships last,it takes maturity and undertanding as well as respect and sincere commitment, true love is more than just feelings, while i agree that feelings are important,i believe that it takes a lot more than just that, because we are not what we say or what we feel we are,but what we do and it is our actions and choices that really give a real picture of ourselves, been "in love" with someone is really just a strong infatuation,a powerful feeling of attraction that makes us feel weak whenever the person we are "in love" with is around...but loving someone is dedication, respect, the willingness to look past the other person's shortcomings and just appreciate the person, loving someone is commitment and patience. the major the difference between been "in love" and loving someone lies there,to be "in love" comes naturally from within and can only last so long before loosing intensity, whereas loving someone is something we do and does not always come naturally,it requires maturity and understanding of one's self and can last forever if the two parties are willing to work at it

I am guilty of telling someone I love them but am not in love with them. When I said it I meant that although this person had a very special place in my heart they were not everything to me. I think when you know someone incredibly well that you cannot imagine life without them - family etc - it is natural to feel love for them. To me being in love is completely different - when someone is so special to you that the hairs on the back of your neck stand up or you get butterflies in your tummy when they are around. I think love is familiar, being in love is unchartered territory and so exciting

You may have the answer already, but here are my two cents.
"In love" is the loving of what is good about a person and picturing a perfect life together.
"Loving" is accepting someone COMPLETELY, good & bad.
Over time we learn more and more about the person we are with and not all of it will be good, but we accept those bad parts with the good. This level of loving allows us to be more of ourselves and to share more of who we really are. Games are over and are replaced with honesty.
Hope that helps.

Good question - What is love in the first place, a higher concentration of hormones? I believe, that respect for the partner is all it needs, love is like the butterfly, here and there and then gone.
