and just build a homeade boat and get off. They have enough material for it. I don't undersand, they have way too much phsycological drama going on.

They already tried that... the "others" caught them.

Micheal and his son built a boat and went out to go find help but then a boat came to them. It was "The Others" and took away Micheal's son and blow up the raft. So they never tried since.

I think deep down, they are somewhat afraid to leave because of what each had going on in their lives prior to them getting stranded on the island.

they tried. The "others" shot them and blew up their raft. They ended up just foating in circles anyway. how about watching the shows?
