Because it’s your first period, I think it’s easier all the way around to use a pad. You have no idea what type of flow you have or how long it’s going to last. The brand Always is the best. Now, tampons are super safe- toxic shock syndrome is rare and from improper use. I don’t want to gross you out- but if your flow is real light and the tampon does not get red, then it can be a little difficult getting out. It’s best to use tampons on your heaviest days or when you are going to be doing sports or swimming. Then, have different sizes for the tampons. Use a slender/regular when your flow is not as heavy.

First of all, TSS is a VERY rare disease - it is NOT strictly related to tampons. Both genders can contract it at ANY time from something simple like a scratch.
If you want to use tampons then yes, ask your mother. She can help you far more than anyone on YA can.
If you're having "drippage" problems, I do hope you're using a pad adequate for your flow. Try a Super pad (I've heard Always pads are good).

Your body is ready for tampons the minute you get your first period. It is up to the person to decide when she is ready to use a tampon. the question is: do you WANT to use them? I do hope that you are at least using pads.
You can ask if you want to, but there really isn't any reason why you can't just get some and use them. just don't leave them in longer than 6-8 hours and if will be very unlikely that you would ever get TSS.

I know what you mean. Periods are disgusting and pads just make it worse. The first time i got my period i used a tampon. And no you won't get tss its very rare and only happens if you don't follow the instructions on how long to leave it in. I personally prefer tampons because they make less of a mess.
hope this helps!

well you should be wearing a pad if you are dripping. my first few tampons were pretty uncomfortable, but then they felt more comfortable after a few. my first tampon ever i didn't know that you were supposed to take off the cardboard and that really hurt. on your first few periods i would wait to wear them, until you have to swim or something, get comfortable with your period before you start using tampons.

You can wear one if you are comfortable. There are also really thin pads with wings if you want to adjust a little to having a cycle and need time it's perfectly okay. Try Kotex or Always ULTRA THIN WITH WINGS.
Tampons are not for everyone!.
BTW:
Do a lil research on TSS sweetie, it's not something you get just from using them there is more to it than that.
Welcome to the club

You may not find it comfortable to use a tampon at this stage. This is not unusual. But you should fo hygiene's sake use panty liners (sanitary dressings). These days they are discrete and contain odourising properties. Don't worry it's only for a few days.

tampons are three billion times better. unless your not ready, but since you think you are, go tell your mom your ready, she'll give you some, and yes you can wear one. If your ready, and it's a lot..go for it. goodluck and it doesnt hurt

I wish people would learn about things before they start believing this really BAD information. Believe me, you aren't going to get TSS. It's an extremely rare disease and the only way you can get it is if you leave the same tampon in for 12 or more hours at a time.
