As in scary-movie fears, I'm scared of something jumping out at me. In real-life fears, I'm scared of heights, and falling.
In movies, the drama and horror is often highlighted by the mood that's created by the music, the sounds, suspense, etc.
Emotionally/psychologically, everyone is afraid of being abandoned, because that's a natural human fear.
Most of the time, we 'learn' to be afraid of something. For example, watching The Grudge or The Ring causes some people to be afraid of the TV or the bathroom. Or whatever else is in the movie. My friend is afraid of the ice-cream truck/men because as a child, she often heard stories about people, particularly children, who would be hurt by them.

*I am always scared that my daughter will get very sick again.

*She's had two major surgeries, MANY invasive medical tests, and psychotherapy as a four year old to help her overcome two harsh physical ailments. She now has developed another physical problem but it is not life threatening at this stage.

*When she gets so ill, I dies a little inside. I wish I could take the pain away. There is nothing I can do, no explanation I can offer for why she always gets sick.

*It's a parent's nightmare.

I think what scares me in scary movies is the psychological aspect. While it isn't exactly "scary" it is creapy or gross. Take the movie, The Shining. It isn't scary, but it makes you think and I think it plays on all our fears of abandonment, loneliness, and trust.

In the Steven King movie "It", the clown really creeped me out.

I have an irrational fear of bees, wasps, etc. When I was a little kid, I grabbed a bee and it stung the hell out of me. Pretty dumb, huh? I also once sat in a nest of fire ants so I guess I'll never be an entomologist!

Fire and drowning--don't know why unless I died that way in a previous life.
Also: snakes, tornadoes (I live in "Tornado Alley" in the Midwest), hurricanes (never been in one, just have seen their destructiveness), being in an explosion, etc.
