Angus and Malcolm Young claim they developed the idea for the band's name after seeing the acronym "AC/DC" on the back of a sewing machine owned by their sister, Margaret. "AC/DC" is an abbreviation for "alternating current/direct current", which indicates that an electrical device can use either type of power.

It is for alternate and direct current. That's why they named their first LP "High Voltage". The name AC/DC was to describe their highly charged shows. It wasn't for the other meaning for AC/DC which is bisexuality.

Only they know why they chose that name...The real meaning is ac=alternating current and dc=direct current...They may have liked it because it would give the group an "ELECTRIFYING" image, and they could incorporate "LIGHT" effects in their shows..Another connotation of "A/C--D/C" is to describe persons who are "BI-SEXUAL".
