Sorry, it's just America. When a person of mixed race does something of importance, like for instance winning an award (Halle Berry/Alicia Keys) who is half white and half black, he/she is immediately labeled as the first 'black' person to do it.
People dismiss any part of themselves that they don't want to be identified as, even if it makes up who they are.

Be yourself. Everyone runs into stereotypes at some point. I'm white, and I won't begin to say that I have the same stereotypes as you are speaking of, but they are there nonetheless. I am a teacher in Dallas, TX at a high school that is racially mixed. You hear it all. And just when you think that the stereotypes and biases could die out, you get some new ones! Its a part of fallen human nature to judge one another. BUT don't let it run YOUR life. Be different! Be yourself.
All of my kids (the youngest is almost 20) have grown up with this philosophy. They all have friends of diverse racial/cultural backgrounds. Last night there was three Black kids and three White kids (I say kids, but you know, 19-21 years old...) in my music room jamming away at who knows what kind of music (mainly hardcore punk/metal influenced stuff). All of them are seeking to be themselves and not be worried about the stereotypes.
You do the same...

The fact that you say you don't like "spinning rims" is very insulting. Because someone is Black, they like those things? I'm Black and I drive a Mercedes with "factory wheels." No one is forcing you to do anything, be who you want to be but don't think being Black is a bad thing!

People are very judgemental and stereotype no matter what you are or where you are from. If you weren't mixed, people would find something else to judge you on. Seeing as how you are mixed, that's just an easier target. Just ignore those kinds of people. If those people were REALLY confident in who they were, they wouldn't say comments like that, they would have better things to talk about. They are just being schmucks.

I'm so sorry, but it sounds like you're having some serious identity issues. It's horrible how people assume since you have darker skin you have to listen to rap music, wear baggy clothes and use improper grammar. It's going to be a struggle, but you're going to have to keep proving the falseness of this stereotype everyday of your life.

You're acting like being black is how you act; anywho if you're talking about how you idenitfy yourself that doesn't matter essentially. You can call yourself black and embrace both cultures or call yourself "biracial" and completely dismiss one of the cultures
I'm black and I listen to rock, oldies, pop, etc and me being black was never an issue

I completely agree I am biracial as well and I do not identify with the same things that other African Americans identify with. I think people need to realize that everyone is unique and can love what ever they want to and we are all allowed to break stereotypes!

No one forces you to do anything- only you. I'm black and I like all of that stuff too. Just be yourself. But honestly, you're probably going through all of this, like people wanting you to do these things, because of your skin color. If you're darker, you'll be tried to like one thing and if you're lighter, another. Get it? Best of luck

No body's "forcing" you to do anything. But if you think "purple suits" and "spinning wheels" are all there is to being black, maybe you should stick to your Euro heritage, WE DON"T NEED YOU!
