Are you referring to the attachments in Yahoo mail? That's not anything that's on your system - that's the anti-virus built into Yahoo mail itself. That does a virus scan on the mail server to make sure the attachment isn't a virus. It's got nothing to do with whatever is or isn't installed on your computer.

Here's a pretty easy resolution. All you have to do is to purge all Norton and Symantec files, etc. from your PC.
Where you see "pesky" below substitute in Norton and then Symantec. Do a complete search on each name and you will be rid of the Norton/Symantec headaches.
DELETING PROBLEM FILES OR SOFTWARE FROM YOUR PC
Let’s assume the problem File/Software/Virus, etc. is named “Pesky” and you want to remove it from your PC.
Where ever you see the name “pesky” below, you will need to insert the actual name of the file/software/virus, etc. that you are trying to remove.
Click on Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove any “PESKY” programs residing there.
Now click on Start > Search > For Files or Folders > All Files and Folders
type in “PESKY” in the top box and let the computer do a complete search of your hard drive.
When it is done, click on Edit at the top of the window and click on Select All
Then click on File and click on Delete. It will ask you if you want to remove them. Click on Yes.
If you want to REALLY finish the job:
NOTE: DON'T DO ANYTHING ELSE IN THE REGISTRY OTHER THAN WHAT I MENTION HERE. If you are not familiar with editing the registry and you do other things you may give yourself some big headaches.
Click on Start > Run >
type in regedit
click once on the very top directory in the left hand pane to hilite it.
Hold down Ctrl + F; this will open a search window
type in “PESKY” and then click on Find Next
when it finds an “PESKY” entry, right click on it and select Delete and yes. (Do this if it is a folder in the left hand pane or if it is an entry in the right hand pane)
Hold down Ctrl + F again and repeat the process until you have cleaned your registry of all “PESKY” items.
This may be a very tedious process so hang in there.
When you think you have it all out. Go back up to the top directory in the left pane, hilite it, and search for “PESKY” once again just to make sure you didn't miss any.
Once you are completely done. Reboot your PC. This will reset the registry without all the “PESKY” entries and you should be rid of your problem.

Norton is not rubbish, in the 10 years I have been working IT it's had the best track record. We've had virus' come in and disable McAffee from the inside, and don't get me started on AVG. You get what you pay for and antivirus is no different, I've seen countless things slip past AVG. Norton is a CPU hog, I won't deny that, but I have never seen it fail to protect a network.

Norton writes a lot of stuff into the registry that's not deleted when you uninstall the programs. Make sure that there are no Norton/Symantec folders on your hard drive - delete them if you find them.
Don't mess with the registry unless you really know what you're doing.

That is another one of the things that makes Norton pretty rubbish, it deeply roots itself into your computer and then can't even remove itself properly. Cack!
Clever move, Norton may be well known and heavily promoted but it is a dreadful piece of software. There are much better anti virus programs around.

Nortan sucks. The guys at PC World make fun of it, and they laugh when people are dumb enough to buy it. The guy at the top is 100% right, there are tools to fully remove the Nortan sh*t from your PC. So it can be removed from the cold, dark depths of the registry. AVG is not the best, but a FAR better alternative than Nortan; plus your money doesn't go to a Nazi. =S
Good luck removing th filth from your PC.

You need to download the uninstaller from norton, because norton is quit simple a very bad programmed peace of software.
Windows firewall doesn't protect you from hacker nor does it keeps your spyware from accessing the internet. Download zonealarm firewall or comodo firewall (both free)
