I often read on the internet from women, or hear from women in person, that they've got it "harder" than men.

Can women who attest to this statement explain why?

Because last I checked, it's women that get free drinks, don't have to pay to get in a club (or pay at a discount), doesn't have to "spit game"* or initiate conversation with a guy (since he has to do all of the work), and various other forms of sexist preferential treatment.

So what is it that makes women have it "so much harder" than a man?

Beeg: I'm young, and I like to party. In the mean time I attend the 2nd hardest university to get in to in the state of California, pursuing a BA in Journalism and a minor in Psychology. Sorry that everyone can't be a boring drone like yourself.

draecoir: I'm not sure if I follow your last paragraph? Women get the rewards from pain and periods and childbirth because they keep the child? Is that to imply that the child doesn't belong to the father? Also, are you saying that you, and other women that have been pregnant, directed their hormonal anger and angst at their men because they resented men for not having to go through it?

waswisgirl: You said that I should "get a life" before asking what women are doing since I "don't know." Look genius. The fact that I asked a question implies that I don't know, and wanted the women to give their input. If I felt I knew, then I wouldn't have asked the question! Think!

I dont really have an answer for you because nobody here lives the same lives and deals with the same struggles on a day to day basis.

To be honest I think most of you need to stop being callous and cynical about the whole issue. Nobody really has it that much harder than anyone else.

1. Deedee M says that women are more often the victims of sexual assult. True. Men are more often the victims of murder.

2. Women give birth to the children. Men are responsible for most of the rigorous blue collar labor. Both get to partake in the joy of having a child.

3. Women make less money in the workplace. As a whole true. As individuals not true. This statistic is a skewed stat that does not take into account that the most of the highest paying jobs are filled by men. A man and a women doing the same job with the same productivity actually make comparable money.

4. Someone mentioned women get certain types of cancer. I assume he was talking about ovarian, cervical, things related to sex organs that are different from men (men get breast cancer as well). News flash! Men get cancer in thier sexual organs too!

I think I have made my point. For every hardship a women endures there is one the guys go through as well. So why doesnt everybody stop bean counting and just respect the other gender for what they deal with.

Because they are clearly not referring to normal human beings--I think they should lay off the star trek and sink back down to earth! A 3 year old could tell you that men and women are different. And I'm a woman telling you that men and women can be similar but physiologically and emotionally they are very different. You are speaking of feminists nut cases. Stay away from them---they make us good women out to be kookoo.

I don’t want to say we women having it harder as to after going inside a club for free and sipping on a drink we did not pay but get the opportunity of a ‘feel up’ inappropriately by a guy accidental lingering hands just because he feels he should do so after all he was the one who bought the drink.

I do not want to say that we women have it harder since we are the one that gives the gift of new life after nine months or the emotional f4ckwittage of a period every month and the chemical imbalance our brain send though out our body triggering all these expressions which men will never understand despite the constant explanation.

I do not want to say that we women have it harder since we are the ones many have seek in a matter of trust.

I do not want to say that we women have it harder when everything we say or do in a world that is still run by men have to be reanalysis and questioned before it is even placed on paper.

Everything is more of a challenge; it is not our fault that we have to question our own judgment since it is in our nature to find fault within ourselves.

As a women men has held us on this pedestal as an image of beauty orcallous or emotional or b!tchy or needy or self centered being - whereas we see you men as an equal or we try to see you as an equal.

As a woman we let our emotions do the talking for us and that is why we are there as a moral support to our sons, brothers’ boyfriends, husbands hence the terms “for my…”

We are at a constant ground having to prove that we are just as good as anyone (man) else; such a life we live as a woman and that is why I think we women have it harder than men.

I think men and women are on the same "hard" scale.

Back a long time ago, young men were relied upon to feed their family and go to war, kinda like today but in harsher conditions. They were also counted on to plant and harvest, and do the dirty work when it came to building, sorta like today.

Women were relied upon to produce sons to carry on the family name and keep the household under control so as to provide a system of stability. Without the stability, it would be like anarchy in the home and everywhere else.

Personally I'm glad I'm a gal so I don't have to do all the hard sweaty work all the time. Sure, sometimes it does suck being a girl, but oh well.:)

Men are expected to keep their emotions locked up inside. I'm glad I don't have to save face.

The reason men die earlier than women is because they have to harbor all those feelings for all those years.

It's a shame that a self-proclaimed intellect like yourself is SSSOOOOOOOO narrow minded.

Some women have it harder, some like it harder, some men have it softer [usually at the most inopportune time], some men like it harder, and blah blah blah.

You really need to get out more.

Everyone has to vent their frustrations in life, in some form. Men do it also, but sometimes through different means. I don't think they necessarily really think that they have it harder than men... I think they are just releasing their frustrations.

Edit: After seeing the answers on here, nevermind my answer. haha. You got me. I have no clue. Maybe they think it's because men are supposed to be tough and can handle it. Or maybe they don't understand our issues and concerns because we don't talk about it as much.

Men are paid more money for the same job.
Men are usually given an automatic level of respect which is not given to women. Eg. a man will not directly stare and make eye contact with another man when passing in the street, however the women will be ogled.
Women have to give birth and nurture the child - men do play their part in child rearing and some more than others but the main duties of child rearing usually fall onto the women.
Women also usually do more of the housework.
Nowadays women are also expected to work full or part time after having a child.
Also, I find that females ( not all) are more compromising and therefore sacrifice more for their partner.

Just my thoughts...

On average, women get paid like 71 cents for every dollar a man makes. Usually women end up with the kids if the relationship falls apart.....expensive....especially if the dad doesn't pay like he's supposed to.

Periods, pregnancy, birth, and other female related issues mean women have to go to the doctor more and hence have more medical bills.

Women who sleep with a lot of people are sluts but men are studs.

If a woman wants to participate in a classically male activity like hunting she is often shunned. Personal experience...oooh I hate those f-ing pigs!

I know guys have it hard sometimes too, and it's hard to see both sides when you only experience one, but I still think girls have it harder.

So you base your claims of how easy women have it on the costs of drinking and clubbing? How superficial can you get! Go talk to your mother, I'll bet she'll give your ungrateful...nevermind.

Have you ever heard of incest or rape, which is a serious problem that affects women and girls to a great degree in our society?

Women have it hard since they're the ones who worry about birth control, since they're the ones that get pregnant. They get paid less for working the same job. More women live in poverty in the world than men do. More women are illiterate in the world than men, and less women go to grade school or high school than men do world wide. In some countries, women still can't vote.

Get a life before you ask what women are doing, since you don't have a clue. I wish I lived your sheltered little clubbing world where all I had to worry about was my next drink.
