Can't get over how many people still smoke. Just wondering!

I work at a University, and within the teachers and office personnel I would say about 10%, but unfortunatelly, about 40% of the students smoke (outside of the classroom of course)
I think that in the 80's and 90's a lot of concience was made about cigarretes, and maybe those generations lower the porcentage, but now, the new generations are bringing it back.
Is amazing to me how many young people are smoking and how much a day!!!
I am like you, I can not get over people still smoking.

Actually I was just thinking about it how few people smoke at my current job. Out of 35 employees only one or two smoke. Many others used to smoke though, but have quit.
At my last job around 60% of the staff smoked.

About 5% are smokers and they have to go way out in the parking lot with no shelter from the weather to have a smoke.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 44.5 million US adults were current smokers in 2004 (the most recent year for which numbers are available). This is 20.9% of all adults (23.4% of men, 18.5% of women) -- more than 1 out of 5 people.
When broken down by race/ethnicity, the numbers were as follows: Whites 22.2%
African Americans 20.2%
Hispanics 15.0%
American Indians/Alaska Natives 33.4%
Asian Americans 11.3%

It seems like everyone!!! I would say 84% easily. They allow "smoke breaks" at my job. But if I say can I step outside to make a quick call they say no. I might have to start pretending like I smoke lol.

I work with 3 guys, 3 women...none of us smoke...I SOMETIMES smoke a pipe at home, on the porch..but it's been so long, my tobacco is all dried out.

At home - 0% My parents just quit smoking about 4 months ago. =) Im happy.

There are approx. 50 people in my office, and no one smokes at work, although I think one lady smokes away from work (i.e., during her lunch break, but away from the office).
Pretty amazing! I could never work where you do!
