Think of the decrease in the number of rapists, molesters, and perverts from banning porno... there are other methods of sexual release. what is the freedom of speech worth in the case of something that only harms society? after all, if you threaten the president, you get arrested whether its verbal or not, whether the pres is conservative or liberal. if you threaten a congressman the FBI will pay you a visit, and it wont be for tea and crackers either.

No. We just have to make sure it is as inaccessible to children as possible. Adults have every right to waste their time with pornography.

Thats a similar argument to the banning of violence on TV/movies, Bad music lyrics and so forth. These things do not create the criminal. Someone who is going to rape or molest is going to do so regardless. If porn caused this behavior than most men would be rapists or molestors. many many people look at porn, its a billion dollar a year industry. if it were the cause of all these problems, then more people would be effected. Like many things, it can be abused, and that is sad when someone is ill and effected by something like that, but its not the porns fault. For many people and couples, porn is a healthy way to "spice" things up. And for others, sadly t may be the only sexual release they are getting. But that doens't mean al those people are perverts.

Evidence that sex attacks will go down? None. Evidence it harms society? None. Relevence to threatening government members? None.

Evidence you want your partisan idea that is absolutely impossible to police to be promoted, despite a complete lack of any proof it's a good idea whatsoever? Overwhelming.

You cannot ban something on the internet without policing the internet - if the US banned pornography it's still legal everywhere else in the western world - and still just as easily accessible from the US, unless of course you introduce a filter to your national servers like Iran and China have. Would you like to do the same things as these "extremist, repressive regimes"?

Bad idea. Whether you like porn or not, it is something that many, many people in society buy. If you make it illegal, that does not mean that people won't get it - it just means they will get it illegally. As examples, look at alcohol during prohibition, marijuana now, or abortions where they are illegal. All making these things illegal did was drive them underground, turn many regular citizens into criminals, and give rise to organized crime, which is all too happy to meet these sorts of needs.

If your goal is to decrease the prevalence of porn, you need to do it by convincing people not to buy it. That is a social effort - advertise, outreach groups, educational materials, etc. Just passing a law won't do it.

Also, your basic reasoning seems off. Rape and molestation happen regardless of whether porn is illegal or not. That has to do much more with the perpetrator's internal mental makeup. Look at strict societies, like those in the middle east, where porn is made illegal. They still have rapists and molesters. So, clearly, making porn illegal there did not stop that.

There would probably be an increase in sex crimes, as you'd be removing a harmless was for some people to vent their desires. Every legitimate study has shown that pornography does not lead to sex crimes. Simply because rapists may have viewed porn does not mean that porn causes rape. After all, most rapists probably eat bread, does that mean that bread causes rape? Most who view porn are totally harmless, and never do anything against anyone. Those who do act out don't do it because of the porn, they do it because they are abnormal and violent people. They'd do it with or without the pron.

i don't think it will decrease the number of rapists or molesters...those people may watch it, but something else is going on in thier head if they can't make the distinction between something they watch and acting it out in reality..the same could be said for video games and violence.
And porn is for adults, people over 18..so it really isn't influencing people as they grow up.

and for some people, it's an avenue that opens up sexual expression in a healthy way..watching it with a partner can spice things up...

In relation to the first part of your question, rapist do not statistically rape to fulfil their sexual desires, it is to impose their authority on another, so whether it be a man or women they rape it is not about sex. So whether porn shoul be banned cannot be backed up by that statment. In my opinion no it shouldn't. it is a perfectly legal way of enhancing realtionships between partners, i know many couples who watch porn to get them in the mood. Secondly it is a way for both men and women to enjoy themselves while they are not sexual active with a partner. Of course it should not be banned.

maybe we should start decreasing crime by keeping drugs out of the country.
that would lower sex crimes faster and more effectively.
now with the Internet we will never be able to ban porn, it's to late. it needed to be banned back in the 70's when it was really getting started.

You never get rid of anything by banning it. You just make that thing harder for people to get or encourage them to find other vices. The only people who observe laws are LAW ABIDING citizens; those who want porn or guns or drugs or WHATEVER will find a way to get them.

There is a lot more sexual perversion in places where it is banned. I.E. the middle east. People who are repressed do terrible things and the victims are scared to speak up becuase they do not want to be shunned. Unless you want to live in the middle ages again sexual repression is not going to help anyone.

Not a very good plan. It would be driven underground and would thrive....then you need mor cops to control it....morality police you could call them
Then the laws will say no short skirts, no short shorts, women must cover up, etc

Sounds like Saudi Arabia doesn't it?
