If it's one with a ball in it, it probably needs a clean. Undo the catch on the bottom. take out the ball and wipe it with a tissue. There are 3 little rollers that the ball rolls against. Remove the fluff and grease that has built up around the middle.

If it's a USB mouse, some other program may be taking priority over it. Make sure it's plugged into USB001. This is usually the socket nearest the processor.

If it's a wireless mouse, you may be getting radio interference. Recalibrate it - you usually have to press a tiny button on the receiver followed by one on the mouse.

Ball Mouse - open the cover on the bottom and take the ball out. Remove the ball and clean it in warm water with a mild detergent and dry thoroughly. Also look inside the mouse and you will see two rollers. Clean the built up dust off the rollers so that they turn freely.

Laser mouse - clean the laser eye, and clean any built up dust of the bottom of the mouse. If you have "fuzzies" built up on the slide pads on the bottom it seems to not let the laser focus properly and it will cause the mouse to skip around.

Hope this helps.

I found a great trick for cleaning the ball on the mouse. Take some packing tape or duct tape and make a loop about 6 inches when flattened and fold it so the sticky part is out. Then stick it to the table and roll the ball all over the exposed sticky side and it cleans it perfectly. It even gets the oils off.

Of course, the little wheels that the ball spins inside the mouse are still going to be dirty probably so I just scrape them length ways with my fingernail and rotate and repeat until they are clear. Then just blow all the junk you scraped off out and reassemble the mouse.

If its one with a ball under/inside the mouse, take it out at clean the inside of the mouse.

If it's not, try cleaning the lens of the mouse.

If it's wireless, make sure the reception is good.

Update the drivers (not likely the problem)

If you have a laptop, disable the standard touchpad and only use the usb mouse, did the trick for me

buy a new mouse

if it is an optical mouse then try cleaning the optical lense.

if it is a ball mouse then remove the cover that the ball is behind and scrape the dirt off the little wheels inside.

also some desks aren't optical mouse friendly so try using a mouse mat with it...

This is common and is MOSTLY due to the amount of memory being used. Usually memory problems cause this pause when you move your mouse suddenly. There are a few options :-

1. Increase RAM capacity
2. Open Task Manager (Win) and end un-necessary process (If you are not sure which is req and which is not, stick to the first)

It is least likely that it may be a virus. So nothing to worry about

The problem could be with your mouse especially if you have the original type that has a ball inside. Some dirt gets accumulated and prevents the ball from rolling. Unscrew the bottom and take out the ball and wash and dry it and replace. I have had that problem myself.

I used to clean the roller ball with rubbing alcohol or nail polish remover, but now I have a laser eye mouse that hasn't given me any problems.
