Check out donnie brasco, blow(although not specifically a gangster film its narrative structure mimicks casino and goodfellas) dont omit some world cinema like city of fire (resevoir dogs based its story on this japanese classic) ichi the killer(a bit violent) and brother. If you havent seen any british gangster try lock stock and two smoking barrels or snatch as they are quite good too. I reallyl like looking at other cultures gangster films as this gives loads of variety to the genre. also check scarface and godfather for classics of the genre.

The Godfather (only parts 1 and 2 though), Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs. And Kill Bill ain't really a gangster film but it kicks @$$!

i love the original Internal Affairs trilogy!
Plus i feel Quadrophenia is a British equivelent of the US genre
I agree with Carlito's way and for me an alternative to Godfather etc

...try these on for size; they are lesser-known, but ARE achieving and increasing cult status:
"King of New York" (1990)
"The Boondock Saints" (1999)
"Charlie" (2004)
...as I said, these titles are somewhat lesser-known, and somewhat more unconventional, but they should still satisfactorily meet your 'gangster' movie viewing needs
