it became about money. the black population in the usa was decidedly short on money, but then the white population started to love basketball and other sports...but the black population still stayed as "fun people to watch" on tv. suddenly, after michael jackson was the first black man on mtv, the execs there realised that they could make some cash since black folks actually had tvs, and started to put some more on. then came "mtv rocks" and run dmc smashed everybody out of the place, as they ******* deserved to do. rap grew, and it became amazing. but then it got tired and ****. once in a while people popped up and you saw real talent, but mtv loooooves showing the "bling" nonsense. works great for everyone, black people showing that they can be rich, white people showing "look at these people when they get rich". its disgusting. RIP the originals

i think today rap music can be summed up to several reasons in todays society. I THINK that the people didnt just want to hear about the MC's with a positive message anymore. SOME people dont know what a MC is. SOME people dont know that there is a difference between Hip hop and Rap. Hip hop not only is a culture, but a form of music. and Rap is the same way. MC's and a rappers, spit rap, but the message and creativity is different between the two. I also THINK it all have to do with the area of where rap is located. In different coasts there are people of hip hop who have different tastes. example nothern rap, isnt as fast as southern rap. southern rap, involves the listener to move at a faster pace, it involves alot more movement. i live in florida, and i personally dont like the music that the south is coming out with, but i just listen to what i want to listen to. im a deep lover of hip hop, so i try to ignore it. THE PEOPLE ARE ENTITLED TO LIKE TODAYS RAP MUSIC. and we COMPLETELY cant blame them, because the record label execs are in that " IF it aint broke, don't fix it" mentality. RAPPERS and LABEL RECORD EXECS have control to say hey, im not going to put this out, it sounds the same. but SOME of the records execs/rappers, I don't think will. they know that Southern rap is hot, the snap, crunk, etc music is paying their bills. and I don't think that they are going to let their pockets get low due to integrity. LOL!! SOME of these execs/rapppers see "no creativity" as $$$. SOME probably dont care about creativity. but there are so many issues with it to debate, and it wont go anywhere until the consumer say that they have had enough.

Rap music is produced. Record companies are no longer looking for talent, they are making the "talent" because that way they make more money because they hold all the keys to the contracts. Now produced stuff goes by what sold in the past. They don't experiment. They wait till somebody else's experiment hits it big, but there is nobody out there experimenting.

It's a few things starting with supply and demand.
If we didn't buy the BS then it would not be made. We the consumer dictate what they make as a general rule.
I dont like a lot of what's hot right now. Most of it is not making any sense. I dont care if it's real, I just need to be able to understand it. If you are talking about killing people dont break out in the chours talking about your Air Force Ones.

people taking the ideology of gangsta rap from the 90's, watering it down to all be about guns, adding hoes and bling and there you have it: hip hop today.

it could also have something to do with hip hop becoming the new pop. in the 80's/90's, rappers had to really work hard to make money. nowadays they can just churn out any old bullsh*t and it will sell 9 or 10 million copies. easy money.

the rap world is trying to appeal to the younger generation ,and what better way to do that then to get them to believe that you can make lots of money and have a big house, fancy cars, expensive jewelry and all the women you want.they are sailing the American dream and kids want to buy it,even if they no it's never going to happen

The industry, ignoring the substance and concentrating on style. The consumers, looking for instant gratification and leaning more towards rappers talking about bling, sex, and violence. And then it snowballed into a gigantic mess.
