By banning marriages they don't like - stopping embryonic stem cell research that could save lives - attempting to force our children to pray in school - telling a woman what to do with her body - and basically impose their "beliefs" on those of us who don't believe the same as they do.

By their very natures they think they are the moral yardstick all of us should be measured against. The fact that not all Americans are religious fanatics, or have different religious beliefs from them, or revere the Constitution that prevents them from truly directing all of our lives - all of these facts are nothing but a nuisance to those who believe they have some special dispensation from God to "set us all straight." It's not enough that they live their OWN lives pursuant to their beliefs, they are convinced they have to make us all toe the line.

For so many of them, "spreading God's word" has turned into "forcing their version of God's word" into all of our lives. They don't see the difference at all.

EDIT: Your answerer "Brian" must have completely missed that gays have been getting married in Massachusetts for a few years now and none of the dire predictions that these idiots put forth has come true. Life goes on as usual in MA, imagine that.

Egomania...They have been indoctrinated with the fallacy that some sky fairy has "spoke to them" and by some divine edict they have a monopoly on truth. They have connived with despots and manipulated with bigots to achieve their antediluvian agendas and have attempted to force the entire world into subservient obeisance toward an emotional apocalypse of shame, remorse and degradation. These thugs have repressed education and would keep humanity in a "dark age" of superstitious nonsense. They have meddled in politics, destroyed freedoms, created mayhem, tortured, murdered, instigated wars, and plagued civilization for far too long. The sooner world populace wakes up to this charlatan carnival the better and I think they're finally seeing the truth by witnessing first hand through these islamic extremists the underlying motives of all these religions

Why are you trying to impose your non-beliefs on everyone else?

Let me tell you something, Mr. Argle...those things are not considered wrong because any particular religion says they're wrong...they are wrong because their roots are intrinsically evil.

Adult stem cells and umbilical cells are what's saving lives and making breakthroughs right now...there's no need to cultivate embryos for this purpose.

School Prayer? No one wants to "force" children to pray at school. It's called the "moment of silence" and encompasses everyone. It's done silently. What is wrong with that?

Abortion? What about women who are coerced into having one by the men in their lives? "Get rid of it or I'll leave you; it's not mine..." This is a far more common scenario than you think. There are other alternatives that don't involve killing an unborn baby.

Imposing beliefs? Argle, in this nation we have freedom OF religion, not freedom FROM religion. I think you have a guilty conscious because you DON'T believe, but that's your problem.

And the left - making children attend functions at a mosque while Christian Churches are off limit as has been done in California. Taking away children's right to bring a bible to school as has been done in many states. Forcing through tax dollars me to fund abortions and embryonic stem research when it is against my religious beliefs. And we could go on and on. Liberals are the ones who want to control our lives.

Can you name any political activist who wants "to force our children to pray in school" ?

The Sup. Ct.'s ruling 45 years ago that "school prayer" is unconstitutional did not involve anyone claiming that they were "forced" to recite the prayer. If you would care to read the Court's opinion -- and I'm sure that you wouldn't bother yourself with that -- you'd see that the teacher-led prayer was completely voluntary.

Lots of Democrats are also in favor of "banning marriages they don't like." Lots of Democrats have voted for that, too.

Liberals "impose their 'beliefs' on those ... who don't believe the same" all of the time. Minimum wage laws -- which espouse a belief about economic "morality" which I disagree with -- are an example of left-wing America forcing its version of "morality" down my throat. Hate crime law -- which I DO agree with, but some conservatives don't -- are an example of forcing a particular "moral" view on others.

Almost all law-making -- all legislating -- involves a majority forcing its beliefs upon a minority who disagree. Unless the legislation is supported by 100% of the legislators/voters, there is always some minority who were outvoted and so were "forced" to obey a law they didn't originally vote for.

It just seem to me when some people get religion they some how think it is their duty to save us all, into their religion. Everybody elses is just not quite right. Religious people do not preach to me how to conduct my life, worry about yourself. If at the end I am deamed not worthy of heaven by God then I am the one who will pay, not you.

Gay marriage has never been accepted anywhere in the country at any point so they aren't trying to stop that. They also aren't trying to stop embryonic stem cell research just government funding for that research. No one in any way, shape or form is trying to force anyone to pray. As r=far as abortion goes, they believe it is murder and that is a defensible argument. If a woman doesn't want a baby she should take the steps necessary not to conceive.

A lot of unsubstantiated propaganda in this question.

The same reason the communist/marxist left is anti-death penalty but pro-abortion. They would rather let convicted killers/rapist live than give a chance to an unborn fetus. This counrty was founded on the basis of religion and if you do not like it, there are plenty of places you can move that will cater to your leftist views ie Canada, France, or California.

because they're in control right now and they have friends in low places.

Oh and they have money. Lots and lots of money. And as their friends have money too, they need to please their friends' whims in order to continue collecting funds from them for upcoming elections.

Why do secular progressives try to force their beliefs on everyone through government, public education, universal health care, etc.?

Why do they not understand that the Constitution was written to protect individuals FROM government?

More laws and government means less freedom.
