I am to write a speech for a class that I am taking. I need to find a topic where I can persuade someone to do somthing. So somthing like, eating healthy, donate blood, etc. would be good. I don't want to do anything controversial (ie: abortion, gun control) but I would like my subject to be unique. Can anyone give me a few ideas?

PS: I know it's in the wrong section...I figured P&S would have a wider variaty of answers, thanks!

1. Convince people to stop talking "LOUD" on cell phones in public places...you may think so, but your not that important...really!

2. Convince people with 16 items in their shopping cart that the 15-or-less checkout lane is off limits.

3. Report handicapped parking space violators

4. Show a "wave of appreciation" when that one guy "me" actually lets you into traffic.

5. Drop off a warm BK or McDonald's meal to someone who is truly homeless

6. Donate your used clothing to an organization that gives it to those who need it most, not resell it for a profit.

7. Buy something, ANYTHING, when you go to a garage sale. Just spend a quarter at the bare minimum.

8. Spare a life today...leave 5 minutes early for work so they stop speeding.

9. Suggest they say "Thank you" just one more time a day. A "thank you" goes further than you can imagine.

10. Write a letter to the president of a company you got ripped off at or bad service from. It has it's rewards.

"Peruading someone to do something" is a bit vague also you dont want it to be controversial - and that makes it obsolete: How would you "persuade" someone then if there isnt any controversy in it??

But anyways:

I suppose there is something you actually could do and that would cover several topics as well:

Becoming engaged in the electorial process

Meaning: Encourage people to vote and if possible even become a political activist.
It would cover several controversies, offer a democratic solution and puts responsibilities in the hands of people like you and me - and everybody can do it for the better of all.

So yeah, I think you should pick that

I did a persuasive speech on why Disney won't release the film "Song of the South"

It has some really valid arguments and tons of information you can use for your persuasion. It touches on racial issues, without being crude and actually lays bare a valid question that everyone in your class will probably have never heard of...that might be a good idea.

How about persuading people not to get plastic surgery. I did that in my college speech class and got a really great review.

Start with examples of plastic surgery gone wrong, and you can also include instances where silicone breast implants have ruptured causing paranoia and symptoms like being intoxicated.

Persuade people to stop talking on their cell phones while they drive. It is dangerous. A man was killed here recently because he was driving and getting directions from his job.

Try to convince criminals to ALL plead not guilty when arrested.

The court system TOTALLY depends on guilty or no contest pleas in order to not be hopelessly backlogged.

Due to the speedy trial rights, all the cases would be dismissed except a very select few.
