A tract of land can be any amount of acres. A tract of land is a portion of land that has been dedicated for some specific reason. As in, Wal-mart bought a 30 acre tract of land to build a new store.

Back during the War of 1812 some of the surviving soldiers were given grants (tracts) of land which consisted of 640 acres as a reward for serving in the military. These gifts were mostly located on the west side of the Mississippi River to encourage the citizens to start moving westward. My ancestors were given land in Texas. I believe most of the grants were in Texas, but there may have been some in other western states as well. Of course, they weren't states yet and were still full of hostile indians and barren deserts and not too much else. But it took months for the settlers to get there so they stayed and made the best of it. Many died, but those that survived, did so by fighting indians and backbreaking labor.

That's like asking how many acres on a farm...or how many trees in a woods. It depends on the size of the tract...or the farm...or the woods.
