mushrooms are typically from overwatering, cloves are weeds, and fertilizing (weed control) will eliminate that

Ignore the mushrooms. They are doing no harm to your lawn. If you have been watering, cut back a little. If it's been raining, the mushrooms will go away when the rain stops. If you've got broad leaf plants, IE clover like, in your lawn, you can use a broad leaf herbicide or fertilize so you have more grass growth that will crowd out the weeds.

Before the invention of lawn chemicals in the 60's, people wanted their lawns to be about 20% clover. Clover fixes nitrogen from the air and acts as a natural fertilizer for lawns, it does not demand a lot of water, stays green during a drought and can be mowed like grass. So I would say that you should try and keep the clover in your lawn.

Mushrooms indicate a healthy soil and do not damage the lawn. If you don't like them, pick them off and put in the compost.

Mushrooms are a sign of healthy moist soil. The best way is to strip the old lawn and re-sod, If not then try to Use Scott's through out the year, also let your grass get really tall and go to seed before you cut the grass, this way you don't have to buy the seed you can grow yourself. Tall grass chokes out some weeds.
