I have downloaded anti-virus programs and restarted the computer in safe mode to get rid of the virus but it doesnt seem to be working. Two questions, how long does it take to remove it completely, do I need to insert a uncontaminated disk and try to use that instead????

Wow, all of the answers below are good! Thanks so much I am going to try to extend this question so that I can try some of these recommendations. I didn't have time over the weekend, I'm going to try during this week sometime. Thanks again!

Update and run your Anti-Virus program. Don't have one? You can run a free online scan from CA.

Run Spybot and Adaware weekly.

Download, update and run Spybot---http://www.safer-networking.org/... . Don't forget to use the Immunize feature.

Download, update and run Adaware---http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaw...

Now to prevent spyware from being installed in the first place....

Download SpywareBlaster---http://majorgeeks.com/download2859.html
SpywareBlaster doesn't scan and clean for spyware - it prevents it from ever being installed.

It's main features include:
- Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests.
- Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox.
- Restrict the actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer.

Try running your antivirus program in Safe Mode. That way, hopefully, you will catch any self-executing viruses.

When you finishing scanning in Safe Mode, Restart.

I'd like to know if it does the trick for you.

Also, have you downloaded Ad-aware? This is a pretty good free program which I run almost every day. Only takes a couple of minutes and runs in the background.

Why does anybody seem getting viruses right here? you could stay devoid of an Anti-Virus answer and not get a virulent disease. have you ever been vacationing dodgy web content or some thing? the perfect answer is an entire device format (or manufacturing facility reset with disk). in spite of the undeniable fact that, in case you had sturdy up as much as now anti-virus - AVG loose would do fantastic, then it could have the skill to get rid of it.

The problem is.... the words trojan / virus are used much to commonly when that infact may not be the case. DO THIS

get adaware (www.lavasoftusa.com)
get spybot (www.safer-networking.org)
get hijackthis (www.trend.com)
get winsockfix v1.2 (www.majorgeeks.com)
get the cleaner (www.moosoft.com)
get avg (free.grisoft.com)

install and update adaware/spybot/avg/thecleaner
reboot safe mode scan and clean
run hijackthis .. remove all bho's and anything else latched onto your browser.
run winsockfix
reboot..
does infection still exist? if so repost here results showing the infection

Udate your antivirus and scan your coputer in safe mode. After you remove virus, I recommend you use firefox browser. It is safer than IE. It can prevent viruses such as worm, trojan and etc. The newest official edition of firefox can be downloaded from http://www.mollzia.com
