For a washer/dryer which is the better brand?

I recently read an article in Consumer Reports. Their best bet between the two was the Kenmore. Maytag has had quite a few recalls lately too. My mom had an old Kenmore washer and dryer that she purchased when my youngest sister was born. Then I became the owner of the pair when I purchased my first house. They both did about 20 years of good hard work! My new washer is a Kenmore and I've only had it one year, but not grief from it. It cleans great!

Maytag Vs Kenmore

Maytag, definitely. We just bought a dishwasher, and funny thing was, the Kenmore looked just like the Maytag we'd been looking at earlier. Only it was $100 more. Maytag makes Kenmore dishwashers. I suspect w/d may be the same.

I went into Maytag, and said, I want this price, I want 12 months no interest and I want it delivered on Monday. No problem. I just paid it off!

I'll never buy another Maytag, so if the only other choice you have is Kenmore, go with that. My mom has always had Kenmore appliances and had good luck with them. My Maytags are overpriced garbage.

Kenmore is not a real brand. Sears just signs a contract with an appliance manufacturer to make the item for them. Usually sears uses Whirlpool or GE for their Kenmore brand.

For example the Whirlpool Duet is the same as the sears front loader. The only difference is the Kenmore has a different looking control panel. The guts are the same though. The Whirlpool is priced lower as well because it is sold at many different stores.

You can find the same thing under the whirlpool or GE name for less. Sears also will pressure you into an extended warranty that is worthless.

I vote for my trusty Kenmore. I raised two kids with this washer, and used it every day for 18 years before it needed any repairs!
My out-laws (errr, I mean in-laws) had a Maytag washer for only a year or two before it had to be replaced, and it was only the two of them. Maybe they over-filled it or something, I don't know why it died. It was a small one.
