Are you serious? It is the responsibility of society to protect children from adult predator scumbags.

Let me try to follow your line of thinking, taking away freedoms form minors? , Then in your opinion besides sex, should parents lose all the right to educate their children because this means taking away their freedom?, your argument sucks. Taking away freedoms indeed!, you used the magic word my friend "minors", that means children, small person who are in the process to become adults, not mature yet . How do you dare to compare the relation between two adults involved in a homosexual relation and taking advantage from children by an ill mind adult????
Do not get confused, one thing is when you are talking about adults, who know what they are doing and the consecuenses and something else is when children are involved.
Children are exactly that "children" and no a sort of adults in small version. Talking about sex with children has nothing to do with being or not open mind but with taking advantadge of indefence, inocent creatures.

One big difference between the "sodomy" laws of days gone by and the sex offender laws which are still in place is the simple fact that the "sodomy" laws were rarely enforced against anyone. What little enforcement there was had to do with merely arresting the patrons of gay bars.
Prior to the Sup. Ct. godawful ruling in Lawrence v. Texas (2003), most of the state legislatures had repealed the "sodomy" laws of their own accord, for the simple reason that the laws were hardly ever enforced, and the tactic of arresting (but not prosecuting) gay men for being at gay bars was being gradually realized as merely a form of harrassment, not serious law enforcement.
I understand your frustration, but the comparison you are trying to make isn't a very close comparison.

The plot is neither right nor left wing. There is a near hysterical attitude in our society to protect our children from sexual predators that can carry us to extremes. The entire concept of the age of consent is ridiculous. Ninety percent of us at least have awakened sexually by twelve, even if we do not know it, and the idea of sending our genitals back to slep until it is convenient to adults would be laughable if the legislators were not so serious about it.
I am fifty five years old. When I was seven I was molested by a male neighbour. Nobody knows more than I do that children can be abused by family and friends, let alone total strangers. Still, I cannot reconcile myself with the concept that simply outlawing "underage" sex has any value.
All it does is make sex more wrong for kids, and lay even more guilt on heads already infected with their parents' inhibitions and religious beliefs. How can that be good? Frankly, I think religious indoctrination is a form of child abuse as well. While the stuff my neighbour did was wrong, the garbage they laid on me at Sunday School did more damage to my peace of mind.
I am most definitely not speaking in favour of sexual predation here. The man who hurt me was not acting in my best interests, and was not acting in a manner that would be socially acceptable in any but the most depraved of cultures. Consenting homosexuality should not be confused with child rape.
Children, however, have minds of their own. If they are confused about sex, so are the adults who have given them such inadequate information. When we fail to provide any real education about the subject, putting artificial and unenforceable restrictions on their own research is harmful and stupid.
The rape laws should be enough to protect children from nonconsensual sex. Proper education would prevent more abuse, and might also cut down on teenage pregnancies and the angst of puberty at the same time.
Sexual predators do not just prey on children. No matter who they rape we should address their crimes without failing, but we should not allow our concern with their behaviour to seduce us into hurting our children ourselves.

I think you're a troll!
If not then my answer, (and I am VERY LIB), is that first I don't believe in capitol punishment.
Any proven sex offender, (or any violent criminal), should humanely but permanently be removed from society. They should never be eligible for parole or have the chance to hurt a child or other human being again. Most of the people would not mind paying extra taxes to build more places of incarceration for these people.

In homosexuality, two, or more, willing and consenting adults do what they want to do and don't force unwilling people to watch or take part. Laws against rape and child molestation are not a plot by the right or left. They are designed to protect people who need protection. Rape and child molestation are wrong.
If you get turned on by telephone poles, go for it if you can find a willing telephone pole, but leave innocent children and unwilling adults alone.
