i have a really heavy flow and usually use maxi pads but i don't want them to peak out from under my leotard. so i was wondering, should i use tampons? because i was afraid it wouldn't be absorbant enough

a tampon would work, but all that moving around may cause leakage.

Diva Cups are great for sports and high activity. they cause a suction to prevent leakage.

you should be able to buy them at drugstores such as walgreens and CVS. if you cant find one, then you can use INSTEAD soft cups, they are inserted deeper, but still protect better than tampons.

I've done gymnastics with a pad before and it's not that bad (but I was wearing training shorts over my leotard)

As it comes to tampons, they come in different absorbancies so you could always choose one of a higher absorbancies. If you never used tampons before, I suggest you start by trying a regular absorbancy one because your vagina might not be used to it. After 4 hours, if it leaks or if it's completely saturated, use a higher absorbancy.

Also, you can always go to the bathroom and change your tampon during training. That's what I used to do because I had a 4 hour training and I lived kinda far from where it was, so from the time I woke up and put the tampon in to the third hour, it would sometimes leak. Oh and make sure you wear a pantiliner or a small (wingless if you're not wearing shorts) pad for backup, just in case.

You could always use a more absorbent tampon. That's what I do when it's a "heavy" day but I can't wear pads. Just don't take out a tampon and replace it with another immediately. Switch from tampons to pads and back again. You don't want to get TSS (toxic shock syndrome)!

regular absorbency tampons are usually fine to use for a couple of hours on a heavy flow. much better than pads if you're going to be flipping around on polls and beams lol.

just put it in right after you change and it should be good to go.

When I exercise I use tampons, use the super ones, they have high absorbency, use a tampon and a pad, it works perfectly you´ll see.

Good Luck!

I would use a super absorbency tampon with a panti liner for extra security, and change tampon at breaks.

Yes, you should. They're very uncomfortable, but they should work for you. Pads are more comfortable, but they put you at risk of leaking onto your pants.
